Wen Xiaohui’s face felt hot, remembering that he had just had lascivious thoughts for this young lad…

He in fact is Luo Yi?!

Cao Hai said: “Come in and sit down.”

Wen Xiaohui stiffly followed Cao Hai into his office.

Cao Hai let the two of them sit on the sofa: “This winery was invested in by myself and a friend of mine. It is used to occasionally have a private party and what not, can be considered a private interest of mine. I hope you two can relax a little bit here. There are no outsiders here.”

Wen Xiaohui nodded.

Luo Yi glanced at Wen Xiaohui. A teenage something boy’s eyes were unexpectedly profound and incomprehensible.

“Then, how about you two get to know each other first. From what CEO Luo said, you two have never met before.”

Wen Xiaohui glanced at Luo Yi, inexplicably nervous.

Luo Yi extended his hand relaxedly: “Uncle, I am Luo Yi.”

Wen Xiaohui stretched out his hand awkwardly and shook his: “Wen Xiaohui…you don’t need to call me uncle.”

The boy’s hands were dry and warm which made Wen Xiaohui relax a bit.

“Why?”

“You know that me and your mother were not related by blood to any extent.”

“Of course I know, but mother always thought of you as a younger brother.”

Wen Xiaohui felt a stab to his heart, sadly answering: “Just don’t call me uncle, I feel awkward hearing it.”

Luo Yi blinked concentratedly: “Then what do you want me to call you?”

“Call me Xiaohui Ge.”

“……Ok.”

Wen Xiaohui exhaled lightly. Although he didn’t want to be called uncle, he still wanted to appear somewhat like an elder in front of Luo Yi. He said, “How old are you?”

“Fifteen.”

Wen Xiaohui rubbed his hands and said grimly: “My sister…how did she…” His tongue seemed knotted, unable to continue speaking.

Luo Yi lowered his gaze: “It’s better if you did not know.”

Wen Xiaohui didn’t want to get to the bottom of everything either. It was too cruel to ask a child to repeat how their mother died. He said: “What about the funeral?”

Cao Hai answered: “The funeral has already been held. It was very low-key. This was what CEO Luo wanted.”

“The letter my sister left me has a few parts that I didn’t understand.” Wen Xiaohui took out the letter, “What is with ‘shouldn’t go analyzing’ about…about the reason why she killed herself?”

Cao Hai replied solemnly: “Mr. Wen, this is something I have to emphatically advise you about. Please respect Chief Luo’s intention and don’t delve deeper into things. This is indeed for the safety of you and Ms. Feng.”

“What does this have to do with me and my mother’s safety?”

Cao Hai glanced at Luo Yi, and considered his words: “Luo Yi’s father and his father’s family are not any normal run of the mill family. I can only say so much.”

Wen Xiaohui searched his memory; he’d never had much information about the man that Yaya had chosen to follow. After all, he had been too young back then and by the time he’d grown up, he didn’t have much opportunity anymore to inquire about Yaya. He only knew that the man had both power and influence, could it be that there was some die-worthy secret here? Though, whatever the secret was, since both Yaya and Lawyer Cao have warned him like this, he will not risk both his and his mother’s safety. He nodded. “I understand.”

Cao Hai also nodded: “Mr. Wen, as for the purpose of you two meeting here today I believe Chief Luo had written clearly in that letter. It is about the upbringing of Luo Yi.”

“Mhmm.”

“Luo Yi has no opinion on Chief Luo’s arrangement. Does Mr. Wen have any thoughts in regards to the matter?”

Wen Xiaohui glanced at Luo Yi: “Do you think I can raise you? I’m not even 20 yet with a monthly salary of 1500.” He pouted and muttered to himself, “I was deducted 500 just yesterday.”

Cao Hai answered: “Don’t worry about this, Mr. Wen.  Chief Luo has already prepared enough living expenses for Luo Yi. Except for the inheritance left for you and Ms. Feng, Luo Yi’s living expenses are also allocated at your disposal, so you don’t have to worry about money as a problem.”

“It’s not just a question of money. First, I don’t know how to take care of children. I don’t know how to help you study, nor cook or wash your clothes…uh…just in essence, I have no clue how to raise you. Second, I can’t let my mother know, I don’t know what kind of reaction my mom will have.”

Luo Yi rested his elbow on the armrest of the sofa and supported his chin to looked at Wen Xiaohui with a faint smile: “First, I don’t need you to help me study, cook or wash my clothes. I can handle these all by myself. Second, my mother left me a house, Ms. Feng will not find out. “

“Then what do you want me to do?” Even though they had only known each other for less than ten minutes, Wen Xiaohui could tell that Luo Yi had a maturity far beyond his age; his speech and social intelligence seemed to be more stable than even himself. He fully believed that Luo Yi could take care of himself completely.

“Because my mother worried about leaving me alone and she only trusted you, she hoped to give me a close relative. This was her dying wish.”

Wen Xiaohui’s heart trembled and slowly lowered his head.

Cao Hai said next to him: “Yes, Mr. Wen, while Luo Yi is more sensible than most children, he is in the end only fifteen years old. Only by entrusting him to you could Chief Luo rest in peace.”

Wen Xiaohui took a shuddering breath, and those three words rushed into his eardrum without warning, and severely struck a cord in his brain. He gritted his teeth and asked, “Rest, in, peace?”

Cao Hai was stunned.

Wen Xiaohui roared: “Rest in peace?!” He felt anger and depression in his chest that rushed through his body like a bullet, wrecking severe pain in his organs: “How can a person of suicide possibly rest in peace! If she couldn’t put down her worry for her child then why did she choose to die?! WHY?!” Why! Luo Yaya why the hell are you going to die!” Wen Xiaohui roar sobbing voice echoed throughout the entire winery.

In the next second, Wen Xiaohui suddenly felt a warm comforting hand rubbing his hair back and forth, fingertips swept across his ears before finally landing to cup the back of his neck, squeezing it reassuringly a couple of times.

Wen Xiaohui was startled, he didn’t turn to look; the hand on his neck was both large and warm, it didn’t look like a child’s hand at all.

Luo Yi whispered in his ear: “Don’t be sad, mother has gone to a very good place. A place where there is no pain, deception or despair. This was her choice. She is free now and I am happy for her.”

Wen Xiaohui’s body trembled and pinched his knees: “You, what makes you think so…she is dead, you will never see her again…”

Luo Yi’s eyes stared through Wen Xiaohui, looking straight ahead without focus. His pupils were like two bottomless black holes, faintly cold, but his voice was like a spring breeze: “I can’t make her stay in someplace that makes her miserable just because I want to see her. Don’t be sad, Uncle. You should be happy for her too.”

Cao Hai looked at Luo Yi’s tender face, his body shook unnoticeably, he nervously swallowed while his fingers unconsciously fiddled together.

Luo Yi noticed Cao Hai’s nervousness, and smiled at him slightly. His red lips were perfectly curved, an absolutely resplendent smile. Cao Hai returned with a stiff smile of his own.

Wen Xiaohui sucked in a few deep breaths. Although he could not read Luo Yi’s thoughts, that soft voice of his gradually calmed his impetuous mood. He whispered, “Why are you calling me Uncle again.”

Luo Yi chuckled lightly, “Momentarily forgot.” After speaking, he let go of him.

Wen Xiaohui sat back on the sofa and vigorously scratched his head a few times: “Lawyer Cao, I don’t know what I am supposed to do. Tell me, what am I supposed to be doing?”

“I have already completed all the documentation. You just need to look over them and sign them. In fact, you don’t need to do anything special, as long as you treat Luo Yi as family; I’m sure I don’t need to teach you how to do that.”

Wen Xiaohui looked at Luo Yi. He saw trust in the eyes of this young man. He closed his eyes and nodded with determination: “Give me the papers.”

He read the documents over once, but he couldn’t see any trickery as far as he could tell. The documents clearly stated him and his mother’s inheritance rights but required it required that Luo Yi turn 18 before anything could be implemented. During this period, Luo Yi’s monthly living stipend of 10,000 yuan was allocated at his discretion. If there was an emergency, he will be able to access the emergency funds. The emergency fund and Luo Yi’s inheritance were all in other documents, which Wen Xiaohui was unable to review since they had nothing to do with him.

Nonetheless, he was still curious about how much inheritance Luo Yi would get after he turned eighteen. After all, he had no clue whatsoever about how much and how Yaya had earned money for these past years.

He signed the documents after reading it, with his hand trembling a little during signing. At that time, he was too young and hadn’t thought about what signing actually meant before completing. He had only felt that he couldn’t disregard Yaya’s last request, and that a large sum of money plus a house was in no way a bad thing for him and his mother.

After taking a look at his signature, Cao Hai smiled and said, “Congratulations, Mr. Wen.”

“Ah….oh,” Wen Xiaohui glanced at Luo Yi, and he felt a little awkward and lost.

Luo Yi smiled and said, “Do you want to come see where I’m living? It’s not too far from here.”

“Okay.”

“It’s not that close. I’m going home and it’s on the way so let me take you guys.” Cao Hai offered.

“Okay, thank you Mister Cao.”

Cao Hai put Luo Yi’s bicycle in the back seat of the SUV and drove the two over to Luo Yi’s house.

Wen Xiaohui asked: “Luo Yi, which school are you at?”

“XX High School.”

“Eh, that’s not far from where I work.”

“Where do you work?”

“XX road.”

Luo Yi smiled and said, “Then I can go find you to play after school.”

“Okay.”

Attorney Cao interjected: “Mr. Wen, what work do you do?”

“Stylist. I’m doing an internship at Juxing.”

“Juxing, that’s quite a famous establishment.”

Wen Xiaohui was a little proud: “Mhm, one of the best modeling studios in Beijing.”

Cao Hai exclaimed in admiration: “Really impressive. Someone with dumb hands like me can only do boring kind of work like this.”

Wen Xiaohui seldom came into contact with elite figures like Cao Hai and immediately felt that he was worthy of being a lawyer; such a smooth talker, although he didn’t have an eight-packed abdomen, he couldn’t help feeling a little excited. He became humble and said: “It’s nothing too great. I had poor grades and couldn’t get into college. This was my hobby and it’s more suitable to me.”

Cao Hai replied: “Haha, no wonder you are worried that you will not be able to tutor Luo Yi. In fact, you really don’t need to worry about this. Luo Yi has a very high IQ. His grades in high school rank first in the city.”

Wen Xiaohui was surprised: “First?”

Cao Hai smiled and said: “Oh, I forgot to tell you that Luo Yi is now in his third year of high school and is about to take the college entrance examination. In fact, it doesn’t matter whether he takes the exam or not. He has received full scholarships and exam-exemption invitations from seven world-class universities. This doesn’t even take into account universities inside China.”

Wen Xiaohui stared at Luo Yi with his wide rimmed eyes, screaming in his heart. Fuck, a top student.

Luo Yi blinked at him, showing a cute smile. After the surprise, Wen Xiaohui’s heart became filled with digust that his heart began to ache again. He couldn’t imagine what could have happened to Yaya before she committed suicide on the eve of the college entrance examination for her only son? With such a beautiful and excellent son, what could have happened to make her want to leave this world?

After getting off work, the two of them were called into the office for scolding, each being deducted 500 yuan. Their whole week’s work down the toilet.

Wen Xiaohui walked out of the studio, feeling his entire body devoid of energy, his every step like molten lead being poured, today is like his own Good Friday, suffering from the moment he opened his eyes till the present. Although he wanted to save money, he couldn’t help hailing a taxi.

Staggering back home, he lifted his nose and smelled the fragrance of cooked food floating in from the house. This ordinary, simple taste that would not attract his attention on any normal occasion, but at which this time particularly moved him. Because from this morning till now, his head had been completely filled with thoughts of that poor child whose father had died and whose mother had abandoned them: Luo Yaya, who had left home to work at age 18, whose life had ended so young. This kind of ordinary home life bliss was something she had deeply desired but could never attain.

He pushed open the door, and Feng Yuehua’s voice came yelling from the kitchen: “Rascal, take your shoes off when you come into the house!”

“I know.”

Wen Xiaohui changed into slippers and walked into the kitchen.

Feng Yuehua turned her head to look at him, her expression obviously a bit worried when she saw that he was not in the best spirits. Her eyebrows perked up: “What’s the matter with you? Are you sick?”

“No, it’s just the after effects of drinking alcohol.”

“You have the nerve to openly say this?”

Wen Xiaohui scratched his scalp: “My friend was having a birthday party.”

Feng Yuehua turned to look at him: “Crying nonstop since this morning, if I didn’t know better I’d have thought you were raped or something.”

Wen Xiaohui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry: “Mom, do you have to be so forthright.”

Feng Yuehua snorted: “Then is it the pain of jilted love?”

“That’s not it.” Wen Xiaohui walked over and hugged Feng Yuehua’s waist, and said coquettishly: “I haven’t yet found a 180cm six packed macho fellow yet, where could this jilted love pain come from?”

Feng Yuehua rolled her eyes at him: “Shameless.” But her expression overtly relaxed after this statement.

Since young, him and his mother had always had an ‘anything is okay for talking about’ relationship.  His mother had always been more modern than her peers. Be it miniskirts, bell bottom pants, permed hair, eyebrow tattoos -anything that was fresh and new, she’d be a part of the first wave to try them. She was already forty plus in age but she still dared to dress and festoon; she maintained her figure pretty well too. So he had never felt the need to keep his interest in men from his mother, who had indeed accepted it calmly.

He put his face on his mother’s shoulder, feeling his emotions calm down a bit, tomorrow… can he really calmly face his nephew of which he’s never met before?

After leaving work the next day, Wen Xiaohui rushed to the address sent to him by Lawyer Cao.

He made a turn when he got out of the subway. He’d grown up in Beijing but he had never been to this section of it before.

After asking someone for directions, he headed south.

After walking for almost ten minutes, he still didn’t see the big building that passerby spoke about. He felt a little irritable and anxious because he was lost and late for the person he was about to meet.

From behind him came the sound of a bicycle, he turned his head around, intending to ask whoever it was for directions. When he looked back, he saw that the bicycle was right behind him. Four eyes met. Wen Xiaohui didn’t have time to see what the other party looked like, only remembering the look of shock in those pair of black and shiny eyes as both of them got taken by surprise. The bike jumped, his center of gravity was knocked off balance and Wen Xiaohui plummeted to the ground.

The bicycle’s emergency brake made the sound of an ear-piercing screech.

Wen Xiaohui lied on his stomach on the ground, for a moment filled with a sense of helplessness, though he didn’t feel any pain, he only felt that everything has not gone smoothly for him since yesterday to now, making him feel utterly exhausted.

“Sorry, are you okay,” a clear voice came from above his head, as soon as he heard it, Wen Xiaohui’s heart trembled. It was an adolescent tone, somewhere between pre and post puberty. The voice had an ethereal vibe to it, like sunlight penetrating through air and sprinkling down onto the earth. It was pleasant to the point of numbing the person hearing it.

Wen Xiaohui couldn’t help looking up. First, he saw a pair of very clean white sneakers, then blue uniform sweat pants that were wrapped around a pair of long legs that were almost invisible to the eye, then it was the shirt tail of a snow-white dress shirt with simple shiny buttons done up, half rolled up shirt sleeves and finally it was a continuous collarbone and a protruding Adam’s apple. The white headphone cords which hung around the youthful boy’s neck dangled in front of his eyes, like a hypnotic clock, giving him a temporary out of body sensation. Wen Xiaohui felt his body getting a little hot and was too nervous to look up. Although he was already working, it had only been less than a year since he’d stopped wearing his school uniform; just this boy’s voice and physique was sending his thoughts into uncontainable disarray.

“Are you okay, did you hurt yourself in the falll?” The boy squatted down.

Wen Xiaohui raised his head and saw a pair of deep and beautiful eyes; he felt both a little disappointed and a little happy. What was disappointing was that this boy was only fifteen or sixteen years old, too young to date; what made him happy was that this boy’s physique and handsome face were utterly flawless: exquisitely smooth skin, jet-black thick hair, with eyelashes that looked like fans from the bottom up and particularly red lips. His entire person radiated the breath of youth and sunshine. Attractive to the point of being blinding.

Wen Xiaohui felt his heart pounding. Although he had always preferred mature bara hunks and was usually not interested in such green boys, this child was simply too good-looking -leading one’s imagination to inevitably run wild. Absentmindedly, he kept feeling like this young man was a bit familiar looking, yet in the moment, simply could not think of where he’d seen this boy before.

The youth’s eyes kept wandering across Wen Xiaohui’s face, his eyes are particularly bright.

Wen Xiaohui’s face grew hot from his gaze.

The boy helped him stand up.

After Wen Xiaohui stood upright, he found that the child was actually taller than him. Although he could not be considered as very tall, he was still average. This next generation was far too well nourished!

The boy apologetically said, “I’m sorry, I was listening to a song and got a bit distracted. Are you hurt anywhere?”

“It’s just a scratch, it’s okay.” Wen Xiaohui dusted off his pants for good measure.

“You really are okay? Do you want to go to the hospital?”

“No need, no need,” Wen Xiaohui waved his hand dismissively.

The boy looked at him steadily, as if not planning to leave.

Wen Xiaohui finally remembered what he was supposed to be doing. He took out his cell phone and showed the youth the text message: “Hey, do you know this place? I can’t find it.”

The boy glanced at the text message, his adam’s apple trembled a bit before he took a deep look at Wen Xiaohui: “It’s on the way for me, I’ll take you there.”

“Really, thank you.”

The boy patted the back seat of his bike: “Come on.”

Wen Xiaohui mounted onto the back seat and looked at the waistline looming vaguely under the white shirt of the young man. Immediately he thought: only a fool would not take advantage of this opportunity and so without formality he threw his arms around the youth’s waist, hugging him tight.

The boy’s body seemed to stiffen a bit before he quickly started riding the bike again.

Wen Xiaohui wanted to say something, but then he thought that hooking up with an underage boy was not such a good idea. After all, his preference was still mature machos. Not to mention the fact that he was hardly in the mood for dating right now, so in the end, he simply gave up on the idea of dating this youth.

The boy also did not speak and continued to ride his bike quietly.

A cool spring breeze blew across their faces, Wen Xiaohui closed his eyes comfortably, the faint scent of aftershave floated in the air before him, refreshing and permeating, making one’s heart relaxed and stress free. The boy’s white shirt also blew up from the wind. If one were to look at Wen Xiaohui’s cheeks, one would see the clear and fresh look of glowing satisfaction.

Many years later, this scene was still deeply engraved into Wen Xiaohui’s mind. He would still be able to smell that scent of aftershave mixed with sunlight inside that beautiful April warmth; warm, pure and completely enchanting.

Soon, the boy parked his bike in front of a small winery. The store front of the winery was not big but the pure European-style decoration was aesthetically tasteful and the fixings exquisitely crafted. The sweet aroma of red wine completely assaulted one’s senses.

Wen Xiaohui said, “Yes, this is it, thank you.”

“Go in.” The boy said.

“Well, bye handsome boy,” Wen Xiaohui took a deep breath and walked in with heavy revolving thoughts.

A man in his thirties walked out of the winery. He was dressed in a suit and leather shoes. He was tall, wore compact gold-wired glasses. He appeared majestic and stately, a member of the elite class: “Mr Wen? Hello.”

“Hello, it’s Lawyer Cao, right?”

“Yes. It just so happens that you both came here at the same time.” Cao Hai looked behind Wen Xiaohui.

“Both?” Wen Xiaohui was stunned, turned his head, and found that that young man had also quietly followed in without a word.

A firework seemed to go off inside his head, striking him to the point that no thoughts at all circled through his mind temporarily. He suddenly remembered why this young man looked familiar, because he looked like Luo Yaya.

This young man stood straight behind him with his hands in his pockets, a faint smile on his delicate and youthful face. He said with that clear spring-like voice: “Hello, uncle.”

Fujia Yichan Chapter 2

After reading the suicide note, Wen Xiaohui couldn’t recover for half the day. He took a deep breath, lay down heavily on the bed, looked at the snow-white ceiling, Luo Yaya’s face appeared in his mind, and memories rushed to his heart.

Luo Yaya was the adopted daughter of their family, not the kind adopted since childhood. Yaya was already twelve to thirteen years old by the time she was adopted by his father. Yaya’s father and his father were life and death comrades-in-arms, in order to protect his father, her father fell into an eternity of sleep in the borders of that snowy mountain. Because Yaya’s mother wasn’t willing to remarry with already such a big daughter, his dad took Yaya back home with no hesitation.

At that time, his father and mother hadn’t been married for long, with his mother only about ten years older than Yaya. Naturally, she didn’t want to be the stepmother of such a big girl, but she couldn’t very well expel the daughter of ‘her husband’s savior’ out the door. At that time, his mother was a cashier in a textile factory. When his father changed jobs, he was assigned to work as a security guard in the textile factory. Their family background was extremely unremarkable. One more person to eat and go to school was a big burden for their family. Besides, Yaya was very beautiful, by no means an ordinary level of beauty, but a stunning and unforgettable look after just a glance. Putting such an outsider into their home, his mother always had a bit of estrangement. His mother had a naturally strong and shrewish personality, with quite a narrow mindset, after a few rounds of enduring, the last straw came out when she became pregnant with him.

During her pregnancy, his mother had a lot of emotional ups and downs. She often quarreled with his dad about Yaya. His dad was silent most of the time. If he was pushed into anger, he said that he could not be unaccountable to his comrade-in-arms.

Yaya was very sensible, or as according to his mother: she was very scheming. After he was born, she took the initiative to take care of him. Thus, when he was young, he was basically completely brought up by Yaya. Once upon a time in his young heart, his sister was closer than his parents. He still remembered writing topic essays when he was a child that the dearest person in the world to him was his sister.

Later, after Yaya graduated from high school, she went out to work. Sun Ying was the female boss of the beauty salon she worked at during this time. She was the mistress to a rich man. They all felt that Sun Ying was the reason Yaya turned bad. In his memory, Yaya once disappeared for a while, because he was too young at the time to remember the details. According to his mother’s explanation, Yaya was with that powerful, rich and married man at that time. Her husband gave birth to a child. She was only eighteen to nineteen years old at the time, about his age now.

Yaya’s behavior made his dad vomit blood out of anger. This is not a figure of speech, he really vomited blood. His dad’s body was injured on the battlefield, strained and it deteriorated with age. It was also from that time that Yaya rarely came back, her relationship with their family getting more and more distant.

But he never told his parents, or maybe his parents already knew and never said anything, that he stayed in contact with Yaya. He didn’t know right and wrong like adults, and only knew that this older sister was his older sister who had from the very beginning always treated him right. From time to time, she would go to school to find him, buy this and buy that for him, take him out to eat and play. For him, except for his sister no longer coming home, there was basically no change.

In a few years, he grew older, and gradually understood more. At the same time, influenced by his parents, he began to have opinions about Yaya. The real break between him and Yaya came because of his father’s death.

It was four years ago. His dad was in bed critically ill and wanted to see Yaya. He didn’t know where Yaya lived. He made countless calls, crying for Yaya to come back, but she still in the end didn’t return. His mother repeatedly complained that is was because of Yaya’s insolence that made his dad sick in anger. Before he didn’t dare to agree blindly with these statements, but after this incident, he could no longer regard her as a sister. He hated her for being selfish, fickle, and cruel, pretending there had never been such a person in their family.

With human life being so long, he thought they would see each other again one day, but he never expected that when he received news of Yaya again, it would be that they were now forever apart. In the face of death, all the grievances of the past became blurry and indistinguishable. On the contrary, everything good she had ever done for him became extremely vivid and clear.

At the bottom of the suicide note, there was a lawyer’s phone number. Wen Xiaohui read it many times and had nearly memorized it. Should he make this call? Does he really want to help Yaya raise that child? 15 years old… not much younger than himself, how can he raise a child that is so big? He can’t even feed himself.

Should he tell his mother about this? His mother has always disliked Yaya, but he knew his mother. Although his mother was mean at the lips, she was actually not bad at heart, when she learns of Yaya’s death, his mother will definitely get angry and will never accept Yaya’s child. Maybe his mother would change her mind for that house and three million?

Wen Xiaohui’s contemplated until his head was about to explode but still could not come to a decision. He was heartbroken. Before he regretted it, he took out his mobile phone and dialed the lawyer’s number. In any case, Yaya left this to him. No matter what, and he couldn’t ignore the child.

The call was quickly connected: “Hello, Cao Hai.”

“Uh, lawyer Cao, hello.”

“Hello, who may I ask?”

“I’m… Wen Xiaohui.”

“Mr. Wen? I’ve been waiting for your call.”

“Oh.” Wen Xiaohui usually has sharp teeth and can curse people for five minutes without repetition, but at this time he is so nervous that he doesn’t know what to say.

Cao Hai slowed down his voice: “Mr. Wen, if you are not busy, how about an appointment tomorrow afternoon? There are many things we need to talk to, and of course Luo Yi will come.”

“Okay.”

“Then it’s decided. I will send you the time and specific address later.”

“Have her funeral arrangements finished?” Wen Xiaohui blurted out.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone: “Well, let’s meet and talk.”

“……Ok.”

He got up and took a shower, put ice cubes on his eyes for a long time, looking at the still red, swollen and depressed eyes in the mirror, he really didn’t want to go out, but he still had to go to work.

After graduating from high school, he could neither enter a good university and really didn’t want to go to school at all, because since he was a child he’d been interested in makeup and styling. After working and working, he managed to make a little name for himself with a beauty Weibo of over 60,000 followers. Because of this, he usually has chances to make extra money, and he is favored intern of the industry leader Juxing Styling Studio.

Although the salary for a month’s internship is only 1500, it was a place where many people can’t get in even with money. As long as you spend a year or a half as Juxing’s intern, you can find a good job anywhere in the future. The skills you learned there, the contacts you were introduced to were all one-of-a-kind chances; getting into the fashion or entertainment circle would be as easy as flipping one’s hand in the future.

He hurried to the studio, and as soon as he entered the door, a male with a high-pitched voice shouted: “Hey, you’re fifteen minutes late.”

Wen Xiaohui whispered: “Traffic jam.”

“People who drive can say that they were in a traffic jam. You who take the subway can get jammed with what. Did you hit an earthworm?” A man with cream-colored hair came over. He was not tall, wore tight leather pants, had a small body as thin as wicker that even his cheeks slightly sunken. His facial features were good, but ultimately no matter how heavy the makeup was, it could not cover a bad complexion.

This person who had secretly been titled by Wen Xiaohui as the number one slut in the studio was named Luca. He was an intern just like him, but he qualified half a year earlier than him, and has been targeting him since his first day at work. If it was any other day, Wen Xiaohui would not have just sat back and taken his ridicule, but right now he was really in no mood to react to this kind provocation. He put down his bag and walked inside.

“Hey?” Luca walked over and raised his chin. “What’s the matter, your eyes are as red as rabbits, were you dumped? Or did you lose your virginity in an overly aggressive way?”

“I’ve been drinking.” Wen Xiaohui slapped away his hand. “Stop fucking bothering me.”

“Hey.” Luca glared at him, “Sydney is here, waiting for you.”

Wen Xiaohui took a few deep breaths, forced himself to cheer up, put on a smile and walked over, yelling sweetly: “Sister [1] Sydney.”

A woman playing with a mobile phone raised her head from the sofa. She looked only twenty-seven/twenty-eightish. She was beautiful and moving gracefully. From hairstyle to makeup to clothing accessories, everything was exquisite and luxurious. Her entire seemed as if alight in sparkle.

Sydney twitched her lips: “Adi, what took so long.”

“My friend had a birthday last night, I drank too much.” Wen Xiaohui sat down with a grin, before shouting with an exaggerated volume that could be heard throughout the entire store, “Wow, the limited Spring edition of Cartier just got released!” He grabbed the Sydney’s thin white wrist, his fingers gently caressing the exquisite diamond bracelet there. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted several customers in the shop who were getting their hair done in the shop turn to look at them, and he knew that his objective for today was accomplished.

After feeling those jealous or envious eyes, Sydney smiled happily: “It’s super beautiful. I went shopping in the store that day and I saw it at a glance. This is the only one in China.”

“There is only one in China! It’s super beautiful, especially when it is worn on the wrist of an extreme beauty such as Sydney. It is 10,000 times more beautiful than it would be in the showcase.”

Sydney squeezed his cheek: “Little wretch’s mouth is so sweet.” She opened her bag and took out a gift box from it, “Hey, I brought a gift from Japan for you, don’t say this [older sister] doesn’t dote on you.”

Wen Xiaohui opened the gift box, inside was a Prada wallet lying in it. He was both shocked and happy, thanking Sydney for a long time until she was couldn’t stop smiling.

Sydney looked at her watch: “Then I’m leaving now.”

Wen Xiaohui’s big eyes shone brightly: “Sister Xueli, did you come here just to give me a present? What should I do, I’m so touched.”

“I was on my way to Taiwan, it was on the way, I had the spare time. By the way, I have an event next Saturday. Save that day open for me.”

“No problem, Sister Sydney’s matters are the most important to me.” He walked Sydney to the door.

Before Sydney went out, she suddenly remembered something: “Adrian, you shouldn’t always drink and stay up so late. Your complexion today looks really bad, your face is pale like death…Ah, or could it be that you’ve discovered some new really good [whitening] foundation? It looks so natural.”

Wen Xiaohui smiled and said, “No, I didn’t wear makeup today.”

Sydney snorted: “It’s good to be young, skin so tender that it’s on the verge of leaking water.”

“It’s Sister Sydney’s skin that is so tender it’s about to leak water, and she actually speaks about others.”

Sydney giggled: “Alright, I’m leaving now, no need to escort me.”

“Sister Xueli.” Wen Xiaohui stopped her.

“Hmm?”

Wen Xiaohui smiled and said sincerely: “I was actually really unlucky today. Seeing you has been the only good thing, thank you.”

Sydney smile, winked, waved and exited.

After sending the person away, Wen Xiaohui leaned against the door and deeply inhaled/exhaled. He didn’t know if it was because of the hangover or crying for too long. He felt a massive headache now like it was about to split, on the verge of passing out at any moment.

Walking back to the store, Luca was working on a woman’s hair as he deliberately used a loud voice to say, “Oh right, that’s Sydney, the host of the entertainment show on the second channel. She definitely is the mistress to someone rich. That bracelet would take up her entire yearly salary.”

Wen Xiaohui’s heart burst into flames, and he sneered: “Luca, you are too shameless to be a stylist, why don’t you become a special agent? Mrs. Zhang, you have to be careful when you talk to Luca, Luca only has the gossiping talent of a special agent. But he doesn’t have the special agent’s ability to keep secrets.”

Luca raised his voice: “Wen Xiaohui what do you mean?!”

“Being so imposing, what have you been meaning?!” Wen Xiaohui’s forehead was rushed with a furious fire. “That mouth of yours only knows how to make judgements all day, are my clients deserving of your irresponsible remarks?”

“You cheap…”

“What is with this fighting!” There was a loud shout from the office, and a man with a blindfold hanging from his head rushed out, “There are customers here, what are you two doing? Do none of you want to continue working here?!”

The yelling came from a man in his early thirties. His extra-wide European-style double eyelids were a bit unmatched to his pure Asian shaped face, but he was still pretty good looking.

Wen Xiaohui immediately said softly, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.” This man is one of the partners of Juxing Studio, a well-known stylist and makeup artist in the circle, possessing a lot of A list celebrity resources, although rumored to have a messy private life, Wen Xiaohui deeply admired him very much. For nothing else other than his strength and talent.

Luca’s arrogance went down immediately: “I’m sorry.”

Rolling his eyes at them, he walked over with a smile: “Sister Zhang, I’m sorry, new employees are not sensible. How about today’s service be counted on my tab? “

Mrs. Zhang nodded composedly.

Prince Partial Translation

(YONG QI is inside dungeon setting inside Internal Affairs Court, after being charge with trumped up crime)

20:00

YONG SAN (MR’s VA): “Go ahead and retreat, retreat to the wall, then follow the wall to the corner. Go and retreat.”

YONG QI: “Yong San, though this place is the Internal Affairs Court, it still is the royal palace – a place with rules, you- you shouldn’t mess around-“

20:26

YONG SAN: “Then scream. I haven’t gagged you. Loudly. I’ve yet to hear you scream loudly. Older brother…” (closes in around guy) “See, couldn’t escape in the end after all.”

20:52

YONG QI: “Let go! YONG SAN, you- what are you doing?” *he is restrained by ropes from the wall by YONG SAN, starts being undressed* “Let go! Let go of me! Have you gone mad?” *continually getting undressed* “YONG SAN, you- let go of me!” *more undressed* “You- just what exactly do you want to do?”

21:28

YONG SAN: “What I want to do, you can’t tell? I want to touch your hair…” *runs finger through hair* “I want to kiss your neck” *kisses neck* “…I also want to hold your waist…” *does just that*

21:54

YONG SAN: “No, no! Don’t YONG SAN!”

YONG SAN: “You are saying ‘don’t’ or just ‘don’t YONG SAN’. If I was changed to Yong Lin, how much happier would you be? Hmph, don’t lie to my face. In your palace’s bathing pool don’t you always play like this with YL? Don’t you two play happily together? You touch him, he caresses you…kissing and hugging …how exhilarating!”

22:42:
YONG QI: “You! You!”

YONG SAN: “You only play like this with YL, right? I was born together with YL, the same mother, the same appearance and height! How am I inferior? Huh? How come I can’t gain your favor?! YONG QI, I don’t want to hurt you, does your hand hurt?” *indicating his restraints * “I’ll loosen these for you.”

23:19
YONG QI: “Stop! Stop don’t do this.”

YONG SAN: “What’s wrong with a little touching? I won’t hurt you…”

YONG QI: “No! NO YONG SAN!” *pants being torn* “Stop! STOP!” *is penetrated* *lots of weeping*

YONG SAN: “Does it hurt?”

24:00

YONG QI: *crying* “It really hurts…”

24:09

YONG SAN: “Has YL touched you here before? Huh?”

24:19

YONG SAN: “When I ask you a question you will answer!”

YONG QI: *weeping* “No…no…no…never never never has he touched me there….”

YONG SAN: “Tell the truth.”

YONG QI: “Really hasn’t. Really hasn’t…stop…stop, YONG SAN stop…I beg you to stop…”

25:06

YONG SAN: “So easily pleading for mercy?” *kisses him*

YONG QI: *speaking through kiss* “Father Emperor…” *weeping tone*”…won’t be merciful…”

YONG SAN: “Father Emperor won’t show me mercy? Why wouldn’t he be merciful? For a disentitled prince? Oh. Ha ha ha, you probably don’t know yet, three days from now, Father Emperor will issue a decree: officially naming me as Crown Prince. As for you, instead of Crown Prince, why don’t you try Crown Prince’s Consort?”

毛不易《小王》呓语 Song

This stage of life not yet awoken from

Yet I start another stage of my life

If this scene had an on-switch

From “anticipation” to “unbearable”

This conclusion was not pretty

Humans always need to remember regret

They came, they left

Did not look back, Did not ask

How could you be willing to leave?

The years have slipped by

Small start, Big fall

How much time is available still in this landscape?

Sometimes the heart feels hot

[But] nothing ends up said

Better than singlehandedly ripping it apart

“There are still many [other] dreams”, this saying, those deceived by it were not just you and me

But presently I still don’t quite know how to change

Even though sometimes as a single person I still do want a partner

When the cold wind blows again I want to say

Isn’t this life a little too hard?

Could it be because back then I had words that were left unspoken?

Stuck in the throat yet still unable to loudly yell

It’s fine, don’t cry

The years have slipped by

Small start, Big fall

How much time is available still in this landscape?

Sometimes the heart feels hot

[But] nothing ends up said

Better than singlehandedly ripping it apart

“The road is still long, there are still many [other] dreams.” No other dreams. This saying, those deceived by it were not just you and me

But I presently still don’t know quite how to change

Even though sometimes as a single person I still do want a partner

When the cold wind blows again I want to say

Isn’t this life a little too hard?

Could it be because back then I had words that were left unspoken?

Stuck in the throat yet still unable to loudly yell

It’s fine, don’t cry

But I still just stubbornly don’t want to have to change

Even if a room with no lights is really quite gloomy

When the night falls I want to say

Why did you leave me only half [of myself]?

Could it be because the person back then was entirely hypocritical?

Specializing in saying goodbye, specializing in hiding, specializing in splitting in half

Its fine, don’t cry

Fujia Yichan Chapter 1

When spring was returning to the earth, the capital of Beijing was filled with flower petals fluttering in the air; in the early morning, the sky was blue like cleansing water. It was a once-in-a-year rarely seen type of weather.

Sowing discontent in its wake, the temperature had long since dropped, with its cold wind blowing in through the car window, it caused the drunk person who leaned sloppily in the back seat of the car to shiver and sneeze.

“We’ve arrived,” the chauffer pressed the meter, the timer started beeping and printed out the receipt.

Wen Xiao Hui painfully opened his eyes, reluctantly climbing forward from the back seat to sit up and ask: “En? Arrived?”

“Arrived.” The taxi driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror, exhibiting hints of impatience. The night shift chauffer had stayed up all night already so he didn’t have much of a sunny disposition to begin with, much less towards a drunkard.

The rear view mirror reflected a white ivory toned, pretty looking face, though the eyelids had swollen in his drunk stupor and his hair was in a disheveled state, the boy’s elegant features could still be seen: with a pointed thin chin and soft sensitive supple skin, he looked extremely effeminate.

Wen Xiao Hui inhaled a deep breath: “How much money?”

“46.”

Wen Xiao Hui’s hand which was scooping out change paused, his tone grew higher as he asked again: “How much?”

 “See for yourself.”

Wen Xiao Hui yawned, cleared his throat, his voice sounding 100% better while he said: “I say, driver[1], are you hoodwinking me? From Sanlitun (a street in Beijing) to my home street –I probably walked more [than what you’ve driven]; if not for traffic at most it would have been 35, you must have taken a detour and rounded back for this amount?”

The driver’s expression showed flashes of guilt: “The Chaoyang district had a car accident pile up, I did take a small detour…”

“Aiyo, this counts as a small detour? If you had turned around a little more we’d both being watching the sunset at Xiang Mountain. You saw me being drunk and wanted to pull the hood over my eyes, right? Let me tell you, I won’t fall after even a thousand cups, and even after collapsing I will still have my ‘Heaven’s Eye’ open.” Wen Xiaohui took out 35 yuan and threw it in the front seat. “Only this much.”

The driver wasn’t having it, saying gruffly:  “This won’t do. If you only give me this much then this entire run was pointless.”

“Oh right, you can’t have come out here for nothing. I drank an entire stomachful last night, should I unload it all in your car?” Wen Xiaohui made a retching motion.

The driver cursed: “Okay okay, hurry and go, I’ll just count this as my bad luck.”

Wen Xiaohui rolled his eyes, pushed open the door and got out of the car. Before closing the car window, the driver cursed: “Stinky faggot.”

Wen Xiaohui turned around abruptly when he heard the words: “Fuck -who the hell are you scolding…” He raised one leg, intending to kick the car door.

The driver slammed on the accelerator and ran away.

Wen Xiaohui’s foot slammed into the empty air, so angry that he ferociously threw his middle finger into the direction of the taxi, before throwing a fierce sneeze. He sniffed and muttered: “Fool…tsk, hope I haven’t caught a cold.” Not daring to delay, he ran towards his home quickly, if he could not sneak inside before his mother woke up, he’d be finished.

When he reached downstairs, he saw a woman in a black trench coat from a long distance away. Tall and thin, with a graceful figure, she had on a pair of narrow stilettos, above which were bare slender, white and tender calves, thick black hair draped casually over her shoulders, wearing sunglasses early in the morning. On a snow-white face the pair of red lips were extremely pretty. He silently gave this woman an eight-point score in his heart, but he immediately realized that something was wrong, how come this woman looked so familiar?

“Xiaohui.” The woman took off her sunglasses as she approached. As expected, she was a very beautiful woman with delicate eyebrows, a straight nose and pointed jaw, but her eyes were swollen like walnuts, having obviously been crying -very harshly crying at that.

Wen Xiaohui’s heart thumped. In that moment, a lot of complicated emotions surged within him, there was anger, disgust, and surprise. He didn’t expect that Sun Ying would take the initiative to come find him: “Address me with my surname, am I very familiar with you aunty?”

“Xiaohui, I don’t have time to quarrel with you.” Sun Ying lowered her head, as if adjusting her emotions.

“What are you doing here? If you have something to say, say it quickly. Believe it or not, if I were to scream, my mother would rush down from upstairs to hit you with a broom.”

Sun Ying raised her head, her bright red eyes made her look pitiful: “Yaya is gone.”

Wen Xiaohui was startled, his breathing suddenly stopped, Yaya? Isn’t Yaya his sister’s name? What does gone mean?

“Xiaohui, Yaya is gone, your sister is gone, committed suicide.”

“You…” Wen Xiaohui wanted to say bullshit, but his voice choked in his throat. He just felt the world spinning in that moment, having difficulty breathing, as if the whole world was turned upside down, he almost couldn’t remain standing.

He looked around.

This was an ordinary and quiet morning. There was the old man walking his dog, the middle aged woman purchasing vegetables, those beauties that jogged in the morning, the children who went to school, this old fashioned neighborhood that he’d been living in for more than ten years was just the same as yesterday. There was no difference. He also was just like many of his past mornings: sneakily going home after a crazy night of fun. The only difference was that a woman whom he didn’t want to see stood here waiting for him, bringing news that he couldn’t accept. What happened to this world? Why did it suddenly change?!

His sister is dead? How could this be, that woman’s heart was harder and more vicious than anyone else, how could she commit suicide?

Sun Ying sniffed, and took out a white envelope from her lizard-skin birkin: “This is Yaya’s suicide note. She said she must give it to you.”

Wen Xiaohui trembled all over, he opened his hand and spoke incoherently: “Cr- crazy, that woman long since has had nothing to do with our family, whether she is dead or alive has nothing to do with me!” That materialistic woman was shameless and only had to live on inside his memories. Dead? Suicide? Why! Why come and tell him, he didn’t want to know at all!

“Xiaohui, listen to me. You are the only relative Yaya trusted. She can only entrust you with the things she left behind. That’s why I’ve come to find you.”

“What she left behind? Haha, I don’t want anything except inheritance. I don’t want to see you. Quickly get out! Get out!” Wen Xiaohui felt like his heart was about to collapse under the load put upon it. He had to find a place now to hide and keep himself from breaking down. He ran towards the pathway.

Sun Ying shouted: “There is an inheritance!”

Wen Xiaohui’s steps didn’t stop.

“And a child!”

Wen Xiaohui halted, as if stepping on cotton, his footsteps felt weak.

Child… He heard that Yaya had a child with that man, he should be quite big by now. He had never seen that child before, not even sure if they were male or female. For many years, they all tacitly pretended as if Yaya never existed, and had naturally never mentioned anything related to her. Since his father passed away, he thought he would never have anything to do with Yaya again in his life. He never imagined that after four to five years, the news he got of her would be that of her death.

Sun Ying came over and sobbed out: “Xiaohui, Yaya has made it clear in her will that part of her inheritance is to be left to you and auntie. She only hoped that you would look after her child, your nephew.”

Wen Xiaohui turned his face and looked at her viciously, his eyes blood red: “Get out.”

Sun Ying stuffed the letter into his arms, took two steps back, her high heels clicking on the ground as she made a heartbroken sob; she covered her mouth as tears came out of her eyes, before turning to run out.

Wen Xiaohui’s body was rigid, he stared blankly at the letter as it floated to the ground. He stood still where he was, as if his legs were glued down.

After a long time, he felt a slight cold on his face, touching it, he felt wetness. Suddenly he was deprived of all strength in his body, sitting down on the ground he tremblingly picked up the letter.

“Xiaohui, what’s the matter with you?” Auntie Wang from next door was just carrying a bunch of shopping bag, having just walked down the pathway.

Wen Xiaohui lowered his head and said dumbly: “It’s nothing, I drank too much, don’t tell my mom.”

“Aiya, such a child, ruining your body when you are young, you’ll regret it when you are older…” Auntie Wang mumbled while walking past him.

Wen Xiaohui’s shoulders trembled as his vision blurred. He practically crawled up from the ground, grabbed the letter, and staggeringly climbed quickly up the stairs, rushing back home like the wind. He had long forgotten to enter through the door quietly, and after closing the door with his hands, ran back to his room and covered himself with his quilt.

Yaya is gone, suicide, suicide, suicide…

Wen Xiaohui bit his lips tightly and did not dare to make a sound, but his tears had already saturated a large portion of the sheets.

“Xiaohui?” Feng Yuehua opened the door: “You brat, you’ve gone out fooling around again, haven’t you!”

Wen Xiaohui’s mind was buzzing, and there was only one thought in his mind: I can’t let mother know.

“Why are you covered with a quilt? Disfigured? Didn’t even take off your shoes, stepped all over the floor with your dirty footsteps, get up and lick the floor clean!” Feng Yuehua came up to lift the quilt.

“Mom.” Wen Xiaohui cried out, “Don’t care about me, leave me alone for a bit, okay.”

Feng Yuehua was stunned, frowned and let go: “What’s wrong with you? Are you crying?”

Wen Xiaohui didn’t want to say anything, only wanting to hide, he completely retracted his body into the quilt.

Feng Yuehua hesitated for a moment, but finally retreating and closed the door for him.

Repressed crying gradually came up from the quilt.

Wen Xiaohui didn’t know when he fell asleep. When he woke up, it was already noon. The house was very quiet. His mother went to work and stayed there at noon.

He sat up, brain utterly blank, his reactions were sluggish for a while before he finally found his soul.

He sniffed, his tears had pretty much streamed to the end,  and he wasn’t able to cry anymore. He opened the quilt, found the letter crumpled by him, and tremblingly tore open the envelope.

The letter was only one page, and as a will, it was way too short:

Xiaohui, sorry, your sister is gone.

I don’t know if I am qualified to be your sister, but in my heart, you have always been my most beloved brother.

After reading these two lines, Wen Xiaohui’s eyes became wet again. He wiped away his tears and continued to read:

As for the reason why I chose to leave this world, you shouldn’t  go analyzing, also don’t ask anyone, promise me, you must promise me, this is for the safety of you and auntie. From the first day I followed that man, I had already predicted my end. You don’t have to feel sorry for me, this is what I deserve.

Your sister’s only concern is my son. He has just turned fifteen years old and is a very outstanding child. I don’t feel at east giving his care to anyone else. Your sister begs you, please, help me take care of him and protect him before he reaches adulthood. Give him affection and care. In my inheritance, there is a house and three million for you and aunt. I know these things cannot repay the kind nurturing given to me by uncle and auntie, so take them as compensation for taking care of Luo Yi on my behalf.

Xiaohui, your sister has been living in pain and guilt all these years. At this last moment, I want to tell you that when uncle[2] was critically ill, I too was lying in the hospital bed. Even unable to move, I was unwilling to let him see my pathetic state before his death, that’s why I didn’t go. I know that you have always hated me because of this matter. I don’t ask for your forgiveness. I just want you to know how much I am grateful and sorry to your whole family.

Please agree to the last request of your sister, take care of my son, he is lonelier in this world than I was.

Luo Yaya’s final words.

[1] – He says shifu, like master but it’s context means chauffer

[2] – She means Adrian’s father, which she refers to as ‘shushu’ meaning uncle, a term for older male figures that take care of you

Note: Fusan Tree is a mythological tree that is said to be able to have the gift of immortal life. The ‘Fusan’ of this plot is a branch cut from the immortal tree that cultivated into a human shape, joining the Heavenly Court as a Fusan Immortal God

[Scene starts with Fusan and Dong Jun = East Lord (he controls the Eastern Heavenly Militia) playing chess together.]

0:10

(Sound of chess pieces being placed across white heavenly world, atop the clouds)

Dong Jun: “Fusan, I heard that you went to listen to the Buddha’s [1] teachings today at Ling Jua Mountain, have you benefited at all?”

0:21

Fusan: “The Buddha follows the principle that ‘nothing is valid except compassion’ and follows the principle of saving anything alive in existence at the expense of himself, truly making this one humbled and impressed. Just thinking about my cultivation in path of Tao and how it was only meant to benefit myself, makes me blush in deep shame. Dong Jun ‘Da Ren’ [2], this humble god would also like to sojourn to the West and spread enlightenment and teach compassion [3]

0:42

Dong Jun: (laughing) (sighs) “The Buddha has long since foregone all 7 emotions and 6 desires, the ‘Five Aggregates of Clinging’ [4] are completely empty, which is why he is able to spread kindness and compassion at the expense of himself. I invite you to ask yourself: are you a being without a heart and emotions?”

0:58

Fusan: (thinking, slightly confused) “This humble god was originally a Fusan branch in Da Ran’s heavenly garden that transformed through cultivation from a plant life to a god form, but I am definitely not without a heart or emotions, or else how could I moved by the Buddha’s teachings? Be inspired to want to free all living creatures from suffering?”

Dong Jun: “Since you are unable to cut off life’s emotions (love), in the future you will inevitably fall prey to emotions (love) as your downfall. Before you deliver other people from suffering better to first deliver yourself from it.” (places down checkmate move on chessboard)

1:24

Fusan: “People that fall prey to emotions are usually those that are hindered by love, though I comprehend big emotional concepts of the greater good, I don’t have personal emotions, much less love and affectionate desires.”

Dong Jun: (laughing) “Are you brave enough to bet with me on this?”

Fu San: “If Da Ren has the mood, this one will of course oblige. Dare I ask what will be the bet’s collateral?”

Dong Jun (laughing): “This…we’ll decide upon later…Fusan-“ (looking at chess table) “-this match you’ve once again lost.”

1:55

Fusan: “Uh…Da Ren’s chess skills are truly gift, this humble one admits inferiority.” (He looks to the sky and passing of time) “Ah, the hour is no longer early, this humble god should take his leave. I will come and visit again in 3 days’ time.”

Dong Jun: “The path away back to Pong Lai from here shows foreboding signs, close to the Northern Sky Demon Realm, this Venerable One extrapolated the signs of the Heavens yesterday and realized that that area is filled with demonic essence and a murderous aura in the clouds, a deep foreshadowing of doom. You’d best avoid the regular path and take a different route.”

Fusan: (laughing) “If a demon shows up, I’ll simply take care of him with one blade, what’s the big deal to be concerned about? Da Ren, I bid farewell.”

2:33

(Sound of heavy thunder, dark miasmic clouds with no rain rumble and turn across the sky of the Northern Sky Demon Realm as Fusan flies through, heading home)

Fusan: (thinking to himself) Dong Jun was indeed right; this Demon Realm is stirring, demonic essence fills the air…is a new demon about to be born right now? Wait for me to go deal with them!

(Fusan follows the source of the miasma through the air, reaching its source: a large translucent flesh colored egg in the forest. Crows caw around him, adding an ominous air to the scenery.)

(Sound of heartbeat coming from the egg)

[Fusan’s breaths come in heavier the closer he approaches.]

Fusan: (thinking to himself) This Demon Egg’s core is radiating such intense and concentrated demonic essence, which means the demon to be born will undoubtedly be an extremely powerful one. It has to be eradicated as soon as possible!

3:35

Fusan: (chanting spell while summoning magic into his sword, lightning fills his blade while he chants) “Eight Seas Portals, Ghost King Surrender, Xiong Huai Shou San [10], Ten Thousand Demons Dissipate! Swiftly Enact My Decree!”

(Blade strikes down) (Egg is split open, amidst the amniotic fluid is the most beautiful, naked mid-teens young man Fusan has ever seen)

Fusan: (Thinking to himself) Who would have thought that this demon incubator would have give birth to such a beautiful young man; he’s more alluring than all the gods in Heaven… (his eyes meet with the young man’s whose finally opens) HIS EYES! (he feels himself sucked in demonic enthrallment, he gasps as he tries to fight it)

4:24

Huan Mao: “Who are you? Why did you disturb my sleep?”

Fusan (struggling to break enthrallment) (thinking to himself still) I….need to….immediately…kill him…(he tries to raise his blade but it only wavers mid air, all the while he can’t break his gaze away from the boy’s eyes)

Huan Mao: (giggling) “Can you tell me your name?”

(Fusan strikes his blade down with all his might…)

[Intro music sound effect]

[Announcer: Su Te’s original work, Ancient Style, High Fantasy audio drama drama, “Encountering Demon”, the first episode. Welcome to listen.]

5:23

[It is the three days later meet up again that they had agreed upon.]

[Fusan is once more playing chess with Dong Jun but he is incredibly distracted during the entire match. He overtly has something on his mind and a far off look in his eyes no matter what moves he plays.]

(Sound of a chess piece being placed down by Dong Jun but Fusan doesn’t even notice)

Dong Jun: “Fusan, it’s your turn to move.”

Fusan breaks out of his reverie: “Uh? Ah!” (He arbitrarily places down a random piece that completely leaves him defenseless, but he doesn’t realize).

[Dong Jun looks down and then looks back up, concerned.]

Dong Jun: “Why are you so absentminded?”

Fusan: (hesitant) “I…”

Dong Jun: “That evening that you returned back to Pong Lai, did you encounter anything unique?”

Fusan: “This humble immortal…that day had travelled into the Northern Sky Demon Realm, and just so happened to see a demon being born …”

Dong Jun: “And what of it?”

Fusan: “It was something…that I’d never seen before…something both demonic and beautiful at the same time…”

Dong Jun: “Did you exterminate it immediately?”

Fusan: “No…”

Dong Jun: “You want to try using the Buddhism path to influence him to forgo bloodshed?”

(Dong Jun places down his piece, once more near checkmating him) “The words ‘try’ and ‘path’ are centered around fate and misfortunate; Fusan, have you ever considered that this person might be your fate? Or your misfortune?”

6:30

Fusan: (shocked, gasping in alarm) “Da Ren! This humble god would dare not ever develop personal bias, this humble god wants to change the world by teaching compassion and kindness…can I…can I possibly just start with this demon?”

6:46

Dong Jun: “You want to teach him compassion? (inhales) Fusan, our cultivation teaches to slaughter all beasts and ghosts that we encounter. Though ghosts and beasts are capable of being kind or wretched, demons are a completely different story. A demon is centered first around killing, a successful killing is the same as gaining heavenly merits for them; they are second centered around illusion and hindrance, they love to hinder or destroy a cultivator’s path to Heaven; they are thirdly centered around malice, erasing everything kind in the world to its roots.

There is a fourth kind of method in which they bring ruin, I won’t say it but I’m sure you already know.”

Fusan: “The fourth is beauty; they are externally irresistible and the most exquisite beings to exist, looking ethereally attractive while hiding a heart of menace…”

Dong Jun: “Mmm. Countless calamities are all the result of demons at work; as much as the world changes with history, this trend has never stopped. You must take heed of what I say.”

7:47

Fusan: “Mm.”

[Scene transition, back to where he first found the Huan Mao in the forest of the Northern Sky Demon Realm]

8:05

Huan Mao (dressed in all white now): “Fusan! You’ve finally come!” (running to him, he giggles in excitement, he runs intending to hug Robin but is stopped by Fusan at arm’s length abruptly)

Fusan: (coldly) “This is the Eastern Sea’s Ling Zi Grass, after you consume its immortal essence you will be able to move about as you wish.”

Huan Mao: “Really?! That’s great!” (approaches closer) “That day you said begrudgingly that you never wanted to see me again but I knew you were just trying to scare me! That after not too long you would definitely come back!”

Fusan: “Hmm.”

Fusan: (thinking to himself) I clearly promised Dong Jun that that I would evade this demon…so why did I still come to see him? Even if I come to see him, I should immediately slaughter the boy…how can I even go to lengths to help him?!…Unless I have already been taken in by him…having developed a demon heart…?

[Fusan is startled when the boy suddenly glomps him and wraps his arms around him with his butt stick up in the air behind him]

Fusan: “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! IMMEDIATELY LET GO!”

Huan Mao: “How come every time you see me you have a hang dogged expression, are all gods stiff and acerbic like you? If that’s the case then the Heavenly Realm is surely very boring!”

Fusan: “The Heavenly Realm is a courteous and respectable place! Of course it is not as dirty or libertine like your Demon Realm!”

Huan Mao: “Hmm, then do you consider me dirty too?”

9:23

Fusan: “If you have a repentant heart, I can help you melt away your Demonic Essence.”

Huan Mao: “But I was born as a demon, if my Demonic Essence is gone then wouldn’t that make me dead?”

Fusan: “That…that…” (The boy’s hold tightens as he suddenly draws standing up facing Fusan face to face, the demon’s eyes take on a look of deep insatiable hunger) “You-don’t mess around! Immediately let go!”

[Demon doesn’t, and instead inhales deeply Fusan’s scent.]

Huan Mao: “Fusan, your raw soul-“

Fusan: “LET GO!”

Huan Mao: “Smell SO good. It most definitely tastes even better than Ling Zi Grass, can you possibly…let me have a taste?”

Fusan: “GET LOST!” (pushes him off with magic)

Huan Mao: (fallen to ground, in pain) “Fusan!”

Fusan: “Remember! If you dare to act so ridiculously again, I will most definitely kill you!”

[He flies away with magic, leaving Huan Mao on the ground, saddened.]

Huan Mao: “Fusan! Fusan!!!”

[Scene transition, Fusan is in pain as he is taking on a Heavenly Tribulation to advance his magic]

Fusan (thinking to himself): I am an Enlightened Immortal God, I will most definitely not fall… I can even endure the Five Thunder Array Trial currently…how can I be tempted by a demon? I will most definitely be able to change him to good…will most definitely be able to conquer the demon heart…

[He choose to take on the Heavenly Tribulation purposely to gain more power to help Huan Mao.]

*afterwards*

Fusan (thinking to himself): I have just passed the Five Thunder Array Trial and have centered my increased Tao power within myself. Today, I will most definitely be able to purify Huan Mao. Help him to leave the Demon Path.

[Sound of magic thunder even though his trial finally just ended. It is coming from the Northern Sky Demon Realm.]

Fusan (thinking to himself): That is…The Heavenly Suppression Array?!

[thunder sounds]

Shu Heaven Master: “Quickly open the gates of Hell and capture this demon!”

[Fusan teleports over quickly with magic to join the man on the clouds.]

Fusan: “Shu Heaven Master! Why are you summoning a magic array here?”

Shu Heaven Master: “The Heavenly Emperor ordered me here to exterminate a dangerous demon; I have to invite any unnecessary personnel to quickly leave!”

[Fusan gasps in shock as he is being ushered by Shu’s subordinates]

[Huan Mao cries out in pain]

Shu Heaven Master: “Bold Demon! This old one will immediately exterminate and dissipate your soul!”

Xue Meng: “Fusan save me! Fusan save me!!!”

[After hesitating, Fusan makes up his mind and breaks the array suddenly, diving in and saving Huan Mao]

Fusan: “Quickly grab onto my hand!”

[Huan Mao looks up weakly and grasps his hand.]

Huan Mao: “Fusan…I just knew that….you would come save me…

12:35

Shu Heaven Master: “Insolent Fusan! You dare disregard the Heavenly Emperor’s edict and protect a demon?! Do you intend to let this demon eradicate your immortal essence?!

Fusan (to Huan Mao): “Hold on tightly to me! Let’s get out of here first!”

[They escape with Fusan’s magic, leaving the Heavenly militia unsure of where they went to for the time being.]

[They land in a few away country, in the mortal realm.]

Fusan: (out of breath) “Alright, we should be safe for now at least.” (asking in concern) “How are you doing? Can you still move?”

Huan Mao: (weakened but still clutching tightly onto Fusan’s hand) “Fusan…I…”

[He seems to lose consciousness for a moment, alarming Fusan.]

Fusan: “Wei,-“ [He’s suddenly trapped by a painful locking spell that has hold of his entire being and magical self.]

Huan Mao: (laughing maniacally) “I’ve captured you! I’ve captured you! Fusan, let me your raw soul, okay? That way we’ll always be able to be together!” (more maniacal laughing)

Fusan: (angry, heartbroken) “YOU!” (thinking to himself while HM continues laughing in the background) I still ended up falling into his trap, how can I just let my cultivation powers just be so easily given to an [evil] demon?! At this point, I have no choice but to pull him into death alongside me. (speaking to HM, exhausted as he feels his soul and magic being consumed) “Why don’t you join me in death!” (He screams in pain as he explodes his own magic and self in a suicide bomb like spell that consumes him.)

[But sadly not Haun Mao because in the end Fusan’s love for the boy prevented the spell from being fatal and merely suicided himself, preventing Haun Mao from eating him and absorbing his cultivation.]

14:34

[Fusan’s Reincarnated Form after thousands of years = Xuan Ling Daozhang/The Great Taoist, the progenitor/Master/Leader of Ling Men, a Taoist sect that specializes in destroying malicious ghosts/beasts/demons, fostering each generation of disciples to slay these monstrosities]

[Xuan Ling gas wakes up in his sleep, having dreamed about his past life]

Xuan Ling: (thinking to himself) I just recently completed my Taoist Cultivation and unlocked my past life, these past nights I’ve been having this same nightmare over and over again. Could the dream’s events be what I experienced last life?” [Knocking on door] “Come in.”

Ling Men Disciple: “Master, the officer of this area has sent his servant here requesting for an audience, saying he has an urgent matter to discuss.”

15:19

Manservant: “Taoist, my Lord is in grave calamity and specially instructed this humble servant here to beg for assistance.”

Xuan Ling: “What is debilitating the officer? If this poor Taoist is able to help, I will naturally give aid.”

Manservant: “In recent years, in Jinchang (capital) a Taoist has arrived with the power said to be able to summon winds, alter rain and even revive the dead. Our Emperor took an immediate liking to this Taoist and named him as the Royal Teacher, listening to everything the man says on a regular basis. Lately, the Emperor has fallen gravely ill with no medic able to diagnosis or cure him. That Royal Teacher said the Emperor is nearing the end of his lifespan and if he wishes to recover then he needs to extract the brains of 3000 male youths born with the Chun Yang eight birthday characters [5] and brew the brain juice into a longevity potion. The Emperor believed this advice and sent out an edict across the country, enlisting any young man that fits the criteria. My officer’s son was selected also…(weeping)

16:20

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “Absurdity! Only unfounded heretics would believe in such nonsense! If this edict were to enact completely, how many people would be left with a broken home?! I think this Royal Teacher is in fact just a monster in disguise!”

Manservant: (weeping) “Everyone says the same thing but the Emperor has gotten completed deluded by the man –anyone who dares voice their dissent has immediately received severe punishments, even including the punishment of Convict Nine Clan! [6]”

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “WHAT?! Such outrageousness! Master, we-“

Xuan Ling: “This poor Taoist studied the Heavenly skies tonight and saw that in the direction of Jinchang were ashen clouds and miasmic aura, a sign of demon entanglement. My sect, Ling Men, is dedicated to eradicating demons as its main purpose; we must naturally deal with such a predicament since it’s occurred.”

Manservant: “If this Taoist is willing to lend a hand, I’m sure you’ll definitely be able to slaughter that Royal Teacher! But the problem is the imperial militia has already arrested my family’s gongzi, preparing to ship him to the capital. My master’s wife has been distraught and has collapsed multiple times as a result, if the gongzi really is taken then there will definitely be a life taken!”

Xuan Ling: “You can relax, this poor Taoist just so happens to also be Chun Yang eight characters, I’ll accompany you down the mountain right away and when we meet the militia, just tell them that I am replacing your family’s gongzi. By all accounts, they should agree.”

[Scene transition, on the way leaving Ling Men sect, in the forested pathway area down the mountain]

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “Master, there seems to be Demonic essence in the air nearby, I think it’s coming from that peak over there.”

Xuan Ling: “You guys stay here, wait for this Master to deal with the issue at hand.”

[He moves and lands with magic to the distant mountain peak. He sees a large snake beast chasing and trying to eat a smaller, overtly younger, white snake beast. The two are magical cultivating beings and are fighting with their powers.]

Xuan Ling: (thinking to himself) So it turns out to be two snake beasts fighting each other; that gargantuan disfigured one is undoubtedly at least a thousand years old with the powers to match; he’s trying to eat that small white rose snake beast. [he moves in closer] “Fierce Demon Slaughtering Dissolution Array!”

[Blast hits the big snake and knocks him down, defeated easily.]

Xuan Ling: “Brazen evil creature! To try and kill your own kind is already falling into the path of malice! You’d best immediately surrender!”

[The beast still try to attack him, lunging at him with fangs bared, surging with evil energy. Xuan Ling evades easily.]

Xuan Ling: “On the verge of death and still not repentant? Since you are ignorantly stubborn, do not blame this poor Taoist for being merciless! From Life to Death, Xiong Huai Shou San!”

[Magic blasts hits, incinerates and kills the gargantuan deformed snake beast.]

[The white rose snake uses her magic to take human shape, a little girl.]

19:19

White Rose Snake/Ying San Jun: (tired) “Thank you for saving me.”

Xuan Ling: “Little snake, from where did you come from?”

Ying San Jun: “Replying to this Taoist, this little one is called Ying San Jun, I have always been cultivating in Su Mountain’s southern side when yesterday I just gained the ability to take human shape. I came out to tour the landscape when I became the target of this bestial snake, if it were not for this Taoist coming to my rescue, I’m afraid…I’m afraid that I would have died right here. Please accept a bow from this little one.”

Xuan Ling: “This mountain is teeming with all kinds of ferocious beasts. You only just cultivated into a human, you must be more careful. If you are any bit careless, you’ll end up as another beast’s meal.”

Ying San Jun: (scolded, embarrassed) “Yes…uhm…may I dare ask for this Taoist’s name? Where thy home is”

Xuan Ling: “I am the sect leader to Ling Men, my Taoist name is Xuan Ling.”

Ying San Jun: (happy suddenly) “Ah! Then that is to we are neighbors! This little one would like to visit your sect sometime to ask for help in cultivating the Tao, may this little one do so?”

Xuan Ling: “I have to go to Jingchang for the moment, lets wait till when I return to discuss this.”

Ying San Jun: “Then this little one will wait here! Taoist, please take care while travelling.”

[Scene transition, Xuan Ling and his disciple have already met up with the imperial soldiers stationed to collect the Chun Yang youths in the Land of Su. Xuan Ling has already swapped places with the officer’s son, with his disciple accompanying him. They are riding their own horses behind the militia, not restrained as one the militia was too afraid to restrain Xuan Ling and two, they came voluntarily so the militia felt it wasn’t needed.]

20:58

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “Master, up ahead is Jingchang, the travel here was quite arduous, why don’t we ask the military guards for a night’s rest before entering the city. The deadline set by the imperial court is still quite far anyway.

Xuan Ling: “Mmm. Go and discuss with them.” [His disciple rides off towards city’s stone gates] (thinking to himself) The entirety of Jingchang is under a heavy smog of demonic miasma…it seems I’ve really met my match this time…

[Sound of rustling, horse neighs in fright]

Xuan Ling: “WHOSE THERE?!”

[Rushing out from a bush is a young scholarly looking boy, holding long sword, aimed towards Xuan Ling.]

Scholar: “Demonic Taoist! Return my parents’ lives to me!” [Lunges at Xuan Ling with blade but the man evades easily, remaining on his horse, while he grabs onto the boy’s wrist.]

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “Master be careful!”

Xuan Ling (thinking to himself): It was just a scholar…

Xuan Ling’s Disciple runs back, saying: “Master, this villain…who is he?”

Xuan Ling: (apathetic) “Just a normal scholar, what is there to be startled about?”

Scholar: “You demonic Taoist…hypnotizing the Emperor and hurting the masses! It’s only a shame I am weak and unable to kill you! I have no other option except to use my life as sacrifice, so that once I’m dead in Hell, I can personally report your crimes! Plead for Lord Yan of Hell [7]  to bring justice to everyone!” [He switches blade into other hand and raises it to cut his own throat.]

Xuan Ling: “Stop!” [knocks blade out of his hand with harmless air magic]

Scholar: “What?! You intend to slowly torture me?!”

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “You foolish scholar! Absolutely no judgement! My master is the great and mighty sect leader of Ling Men! How could he be some demonic Taoist!”

Scholar: “Y-you’re not the Royal Teacher?”

22:16

Xuan Ling: “This poor Taoist’s name is Xuan Ling. I just came from the lands of Su. Dare I ask if this demonic Taoist you speak of is the same as the man elected by the emperor to be Imperial Court Sorceror?”

Scholar: “Indeed so. That demonic Taoist a few days ago was doing sorcery in the main square, my parents just happened to bear witness to his magic and somehow triggered his anger, causing him to toss both of them into the cauldron, burning them both alive.” (sob) “With a heart of revenge, I heard he was out touring around here and since last night I had been hiding inside these bushes, intending to stab him to death when he passes. I didn’t think…didn’t think I would hurt an innocent, I beg for this Taoist’s pardon.”

Xuan Ling: “This gongzi need not blame himself. On the road here, this poor Taoist keeps hearing of the Royal Teacher’s abuse from people high and low; I came here with exactly the intention of eradicating this evil creature. That will also avenge your parents simultaneously. I will meet with him tomorrow for a match.”

Scholar: “This Taoist is righteous and brave, really impressing this one. This humble one is willing to do anything to assist. I beg this Taoist to take me with you.”

Mo Ran: (contemplative) “This…okay, this gongzi’s entire face is covered in mud. Please take this handkerchief to clean yourself with.”

[He urges horse forward, offering handkerchief from above to the boy, who reaches out for it.]

Scholar: “Thank you, Taoist.” [Wipes his face, revealing a remarkably handsome youthful face.]

23:58

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: (thinking to himself) Aiya! This scholar was born so beautifully! Even the most powerful Fox Demon [7] on Su Mountain would not be able to create such an attractive appearance.”

Scholar: “Taoist, the sky is already dark, where are we going to go now?”

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “Oh I just discussed it with the imperial soldiers, they agreed to first rest at the nearby Mountain God Temple. Why don’t you come with us?”

Scholar: (walks to them) “Okay.” (trips) “Aiyoh…”

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “What’s the matter?”

Scholar: “This humble scholar was waiting in the bushes for one day and one night so my legs are quite numb by now.”

Xuan Ling: “Gongzi’s movements are debilitated. You may ride this poor Taoist’s horse [in place of me].”

Scholar: (feeling shy/guilty) “How can I do that?! It’s better if I just walk.” (takes another step but stumbles)

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “Your feet are hurt to this extent, how can you possibly walk?” (turning to Xuan Ling) “Master, I can tell this Gongzi has suffered a lot already, why not…let him share the horse with you? There’s not much road remaining after all.”

Xuan Ling: “Mmm. Sounds good.” (leads horse to Scholar so that the saddle is right next to him, he offers his hand down) “Gongzi, please get on.”

Scholar (shy): “Mmh. Then I greatly thank this Taoist.”

[He gets on, sitting behind Xuan Ling.]

25:03

Xuan Ling: “I’ve forgotten to ask for this Gongzi’s name in the sudden occurrence, may I ask wat you call yourself?”

Scholar: “Oh, this scholar is called Chu Yu.” [8]

Xuan Ling’s Disciple: “This name is quite suiting for you! A name just like the person!”

Chu Yu: (embarrassed) (falls into Xuan Ling’s back, wrapping his arms suddenly around his waist)

Xuan Ling: “What’s wrong?”

Chu Yu: “I was momentarily imbalanced.”

Xuan Ling: “Oh, Chu Gongzi should hold on tightly to this poor Taoist, lest you fall to the ground.”

Chu Yu: “Okay.” (leans into Xuan Ling’s backside, resting his head against the man’s back, keeping his arms around Xuan Ling)

[Horse rides off]

25:50

[Scene Transition, inside the Mountain God Temple, middle of the night]

Chu Yu: “Taoist, Taoist, Taoist, look at me, Taoist….laughter….Taoist….”

[Xuan Ling was trying to meditate, but failing to do so caused his entire body to break into sweat.]

Xuan Ling: (thinking to himself) Why can’t I calmly meditate anymore? In my mind, I keep seeing Chu Gongzi’s image. What is up with me?” [knocking on door] “Who is it?”

Chu Yu: “Taoist, it’s me.”

Xuan Ling: “Chu Gongzi? Please come in.”

[He enters, walking to Xuan Ling.]

Xuan Ling: “It is deep into the night, how come you haven’t slept yet?”

Chu Yu: “I feel this Mountain God’s Temple is very drafty and frightening, it made me too afraid to fall asleep…”

Xuan Ling: “This poor Taoist has already set up an array around this temple’s perimeter: be it beast, demon, ghost, or any other malicious being, they will not be able to cross. Gongzi can rest assured.”

27:22

Chu Yu: “This Taoist’s powers are remarkable; tomorrow you will definitely be able to kill that demonic Taoist in the capital. Could you maybe let this little one personally stab him once? So that I may personally avenge my parents?”

Xuan Ling: “This Gongzi’s persistence is admirable, but that Royal Teacher is most likely an extraordinarily advanced demonic lord with great power. Any normal person that approaches him will inevitably be in peril.”

Chu Yu: “This scholar once vowed to the heavens that if I don’t avenge my parents, I would not continue living! I beg this Taoist to please oblige me!” (bows in obeisance)

27:50

Xuan Ling: “Gongzi is so insistent, how can this Taoist not acquiesce?” [He creates a paper talisman by writing an array on it.] “This poor Taoist has infused this paper with Tian Guan qi, if Gongzi carries this on yourself, then you will be able to enter and cross into the array I will set up around myself [while fighting] whilst also preventing the Royal Teacher from hurting you.”

Chu Yu: “Thank you Taoist!” [Grabs paper and stores it in his bosom.] “Taoist, this little one has another…small request.”

Xuan Ling: “Say it freely.”

Chu Yu: “This little one has no home left, with no path for me in the future either…since I was fortunate enough to meet with this great Taoist today, I wonder if I may follow this Taoist from now on? Be taught by you the ways of cultivation?”

Xuan Ling: “This…let’s talk more about this tomorrow. The hour is no longer early, I invite this Gongzi to go to bed as soon as you can.”

Chu Yu: “This little one can’t fall asleep in his own room, and I…would like to stay here with this Taoist and meditate with you? Oh, but if it’s a bother to you then I can just leave.”

Xuan Ling: “…no, not a bother. You can just stay here.”

29:10

Chu Yu: “Yes.”

[Scene transition, imperial palace, inner court]

29:40

Emperor: (coughing) “Royal Teacher, this emperor’s sickness is getting more and more severe, when will you be able to extend this emperor’s life?”

Royal Teacher: “This emperor need not be impatient. As soon as those 3000 medicinal ingredients are gathered, this servant will immediately extract their brain juices and brew for you the medicine you need.”

Emperor: (to his subordinate) “Have those 3000 Chun Yang 8 character youths been fully gathered?”

Subordinate: “Informing this emperor, this subordinate did find 3000 male youths, and gathered them together yesterday into the square to brew them, but somehow, a Taoist came out of nowhere to summon fierce winds that blew all the ingredients in every direction.”

Emperor (furious): “Who dares to do something so outrageous?!”

Subordinate: “That Taoist claimed to be the sect leader of Ling Men or Su Mountain.”

Emperor: “Pass my imperial decree! Immediately order people to arrest this demonic Taoist!!!”

Subordinate: “This person hasn’t escaped, he’s waiting outside of the palace.”

Royal Teacher: “My emperor, this humble subject of yours knows of this Taoist. He is also of Chun Yang 8 characters –if we just use his one brain to brew the medicine, the effect would surpass all 3000 ingredients.”

Emperor: “Good! Good! Quickly summon him into the court, ready the imperial militia to surround him, don’t let him escape.”

[Door opening, Xuan Ling and Chu Yu enter]

Chu Yu: “This imperial palace has such tight security. Though we can enter right now, will we be able to exit later?”

Xuan Ling: “Don’t be afraid, I’ll most definitely protect you, follow me closely.”

Court Eunuch: “The emperor has summoned the sect leader of Ling Men, Xuan Ling, into the throne room!”

Xuan Ling: (bowing) “Taoist Xuan Ling, pays respects to this emperor.” (thinking to himself) This entire palace is the center core of all the demonic miasma, the demon has to be stationed here…

Emperor: “So you are that…Taoist from the Su Mountains? You have some nerve, dare to release the ingredients for this emperor’s medicine! Chi Jun Wang San! [9] What punishment should I give you?!”

Xuan Ling: (thinking to himself) This emperor’s entire face is covered in the aura of death; his entire body’s meridians have been severed already demonic essence; no matter what, he will most definitely die in three days. (speaking to emperor) “This Emperor has misunderstood this poor Taoist; this poor Taoist has come here today to save this monarch. There is a mighty powerful demon hidden inside this palace that is the true reason for this emperor’s illness.”

32:40

Emperor: “Utter nonsense! Guards! Arrest them!”

Imperial Guards all together: “Yes!” (blades drawn)

Chu Yu (frightened, hiding behind him): “Taoist!”

Xuan Ling: “Evil Disperse!! Purple air travels to the sky, Crane Dashes Through Mount Danxia, Devours the Demon, Ten Thousand Demons Self Defeating, Ji Ji Lu Lin Lin![10]” (He dispatches all the guards while also dispelling the miasma) “Demon! Still not showing yourself!”

(Royal Teacher laughs evilly, maniacally, everyone starts panicking and runs to escape as the palace starts to implode from the demon’s power that is erupting from the walls to strike at Xuan Ling who has magically shielded himself and Chu Yu; rubbles, ceiling, walls all collapse around him and Chu Yu)

Emperor (panicking): “Royal Teacher save me! Royal Teacher save me!”

Royal Teacher: “Useless monarch, you are already useless to me!” (He kills Emperor, appearing finally into physical human form)

One of the ministers: “A-a demon has appeared!!!”

Xuan Ling: “Dǒuzhuǎn-Xīngyí![16]” (thinking to himself) I must seal him into the area, preventing him from slaughtering anyone else.

Royal Teacher: “Why so anxious? With you here I definitely won’t be going anywhere.”

Xuan Ling: “From what place do you originate from demon? How long have you been here doing these heinous acts?”

Royal Teacher: “Hahaha, this Venerable One is the Lord of the Northern Sky Demon Realm, I came to the mortal realm for some fun…who would have thought that I would find such a superior snack like you.”

(He suddenly traps Xuan Ling so the guy can’t move while the demon comes close to his body)

34:09

Royal Teacher: “I’ve caught you.” (he inhales deeply) “Your raw soul smells so delicious. It’s absolutely mouthwatering. HOW ABOUT LETTING ME HAVE A TASTE.”

Xuan Ling: “Don’t think of misbehaving!” (he breaks free, they fight) “Divine Soldiers Arise!” (spell hits Royal Teacher, he grunts in pain)

Xuan Ling: “Your fate ends here!”

Royal Teacher: (laughing) “First, take a look behind you.”

35:00

Chu Yu: (behind held captive in dark miasmic power) “Taoist! Taoist save me!”

Xuan Ling: “Chu Gongzi!”

[Royal Teacher laughs. Chu Yu yells for help as the demon materializes behind him and grips his jawline, angling it up in painful way as he forces Xuan Ling to see Chu Yu in hostage.]

Royal Teacher: “If I die, this scholar will go along with me! Can you bear to part?”

Xuan Ling: “QUICKLYET HIM GO NOW!”

[With one arm still wrapped around Chu Yu, the Royal Teacher extends his other arm to grab and pull Xuan Ling up close too, screaming into his face:] “Obediently become my snack!!!”

35:24

Xuan Ling: (thinking to himself) Chu gong-zi has been trapped by the Demon’s power as well, if I activate the Demon Breaking Array it will definitely harm him…I can only use the other option of sacrificing a portion of my life force to invoke “Five Emperors Eradicating Demon Array” to kill him. Chu gong-zi has my talisman on him, he won’t be harmed by the array.”

Xuan Ling: “Five Emperors Forge Ahead, Grand Power Myriad! Ling Bao Tian Zun [15], Console the Body, This Disciple’s Soul, Five Organs in Darkness, Azure Dragon White Tiger, Diverse and Muddled Combat, Vermillion Bird Black Tortoise, Imperial Bodyguard I Am, Ji Ji Lu Lin Lin!”

Xuan Ling: “Finally…finally I’ve exterminated this demon…”

36:15

*coughing*

Xuan Ling: (thinking) Why has the demon energy not dissipated but rather has only gotten thicker? (the aura permeates closer to him)…this demon aura has already penetrated my enchanted…how can this be?!

(he approaches the body of the dead demon) This demon’s corpse…is only a normal human?! This was just one of his puppets! The real demon is still somewhere near-”

36:52

(suddenly gets trapped by magic, he drops his weapon)

Chu Yu: (while laughing) “Taoist, it seems your cultivating hasn’t really been honed enough, in the end you never noticed my real identity!”

Xuan Ling: “Chu Yu! You…you’re the real demon?!”

37:09

Chu Yu: “My name is actually Huan Mao. A wandering demon through the three realms for the past thousand years, finally I meet you, it must be fate.”

Xuan Ling: “Evil Disp-” (interrupted, coughing, too exhausted both spiritually and physically)

Chu Yu/Huan Mao: “You’ve completely exhausted your magic, you can’t even harm a hair on me right now. Why don’t you not waste the energy?”

[Xuan Ling grunts in pain.]

Chu Yu/Huan Mao: “I know you like me…that’s why you couldn’t bear to make a move a moment ago. I feel the same way. From the first sight of you, I fell for you. You look a lot like an old friend of mine…his soul was just like yours right now…just as aromatic and enticing.”

[Xuan Ling recalls his nightmares/finally remembers his past life]:

Huan Mao: (laughing maniacally) “I’ve captured you! I’ve captured you! Fusan, let me your raw soul, okay? That way we’ll always be able to be together!” (more maniacal laughing)

Xuan Ling: “Y-you, what do you intend to do?!”

Huan Mao: “Hahahaha….of course I intend to eat you!” (he eats a bit) “Mmm. This taste is so good! Quickly give me your entire soul! I want to swallow it all in one gulp!”

Xuan Ling: “You fell for it.” (he casts one final magic spell)

Huan Mao: “You used your soul as bait?!?”

Xuan Ling: “If I don’t use this method of ‘killing the good and bad’ together, how else can I kill you?!”

(screams of pain from both)

Xuan Ling: “DIE!”

Chu Yu/Huan Mao screams.

39:28:

[Back at Ling Men]

Xuan Ling: (chanting final array with his remaining energy) “Natural Heaven to Earth, Filth Air Dissipate, Three Souls Everlasting, Soul Without Corpse, SEAL!”

Disciple: “Master! Master!”

Xuan Ling: “Don’t be anxious…this master is of no further use. That Huan Mao has been sealed by me in this cave, henceforth this place will be Forbidden Grounds at Ling Men, no one is allowed to approach.”

Disciple: “Master….” (sobs) “Master…”

Xuan Ling: “I’ve spent my life exorcising demons, the amount of exorcised and punished demons are countless…now I have to see my Taoist’s life come to an end right on the verge of Ascension…deceived by a demon so that all my efforts are wasted …my heart cannot resist feeling dissatisfied…” (turns to address his disciple) “After I die and my body is dissolved, the freed Yin spiritual essence will become stored in this Spirit Trapping Vessel [12] so that in the next life I can continue cultivating through it…take good care of this Vessel for this master. Pass it down from generation to generation…if after many years this master…still reincarnates back into Ling Men, then at that time, I will most certainly dissolve this demon.” (He dies, body falls to ground).

41:48

[Next Life at Ling Men, 700 hundred years later:]

[Xuan Ling’s reincarnated form: Ling Hua, is fighting demon with his Eldest Disciple Sister = Shijie]

Eldest Disciple Sister: “Ling Hua! I’ll flank him on the left, you block him on the right. We’ll work together and kill this Lion Beast!”

Ling Hua: “Yes! Shijie (elder disciple sister), be careful!”

Elder Disciple Sister: “Hey! Tian Luo Di Wang[11]!” (trap array hits) “Ling Hua, hurry and kill him!”

Ling Hua: “Ao! Okay!” (draws sword) “Monster, eat this!” (He tries to strike beast but he is thrown into the air far away by the Lion Beast)

Elder Disciple Sister: “Ling Hua!”

(At a distance, Ling Hua’s fall is stopped before he hits anything)

Ling Hua: (shocked) “Eh, how come I’m suspended in the air, unless I’ve suddenly learned Cloud Soaring Skill? Hehehe…eh, but what is this cold thing wrapped around my waist.” (Turns head and sees giant white snake head) “AHHH! Snake!” (snake’s tail unwraps, Ling Hua falls to the ground) “Ah! Owww!! Where’s my sword?! WHERE’S MY SWORD?!”

Ling Hua: (thinking to himself as he stares down giant white snake) A huge White Rose Snake! They can swallow me whole!

Ling Hua: “Ah! B-beast don’t do anything rash! I’m a disciple of Ling Men! If you eat me, my master will definitely not let you off!”

(Snake transforms into human shape; it is the snake his past life saved all grown up and extremely talented in magic now)

43:00

Ying San Jun: (Laughing) “What an ignorant youngster, I kindheartedly saved your life and get called a beast by you. If I had known this would be the outcome, I would have just let you smash onto the ground, become a meat pancake, see if that master of yours will take revenge on rocks.”

Ling Hua: “Ah??? ….oh! So just now it was you who caught me? No wonder I stopped in midair! Eh, your normal form is a snake and is my life saving hero, then I’ll refer to you as Great Snake Immortal!”

Ying San Jun: “Hmph. Why don’t you just call me by my name? I’m called Yin San Jun.”

Ling Hua: “Eh you can call me by my name too, I’m called Ling Hua, the ‘ling’ from Ling Men, the ‘hua’ from “Chun Hua Qiu Shi”[13]

43:50

Ying San Jun: (thinking to herself) “The Six Paths of Reincarnation sure are merciless, letting a supremely power Taoist change into a foolish young boy but today I’ve finally been able to return the lifesaving grace from 700 years ago. Such a lucky encounter. (turning back to the young lad) “Ling Hua, the hour is no longer early, I’ll escort you back to Ling Men.”

Ling Hua: “No! I came down with my Shijie to vanquish demons together so I have to go back with her! Ying San Jun, could I bother you to help me find my shijie?”

Ying San Jun: “Follow alongside me.”

(They walk away into the forest together)

44:35

Ling Hua: “Shijie, shijie! Shijie! Shijie!” (thinking to himself) “Weird, there’s nobody here anywhere, just where could she have gone?”

Ying San Jun: “Ling Hua! Ling Hua! This area’s demonic miasma is too thick, we can’t go any closer.”

Ling Hua: “Ah? What?” (looks around and finally realizes where they are) “Oh this place is the Forbidden Grounds of Ling Men!”

Ying San Jun: “That’s right. 700 years ago, the sect founder of Ling Men, Xuan Ling Taoist, sealed an incredibly powerful demon here, disallowing any Ling Men members to enter, even the immortal beasts of this Su Mountain dare not trespass here. I think your Shijie is not around these parts, why don’t we go somewhere else to search?”

Ling Hua: “Ah, okay.”

(Huan Mao breathes heavily)

Ling Hua gasps.

Ying Sang Jun: “What’s wrong?”

Ling Hua: “Ying Sang Jun, did you hear a weird sound just now?”

Ying Sang Jun: “Did you hear something?”

Ling Hua: “It was almost like…someone was sighing.”

Ying Sang Jun: “I’d bet that it was just the wind. Come on, let’s hurry. If we don’t, the sun will have set soon.”

Ling Hua: “Ao.” (thinking to himself) “Did I hear incorrectly? Somehow, I have the inkling that the sound had come, as if from within the Forbidden Grounds?”

46:20

Ling Hua: “Shijie! Shijie!”

(Huan Mao laughing)

Ling Hua: “Who are you? Why are you hiding in the dark?!”

Huan Mao: “I waited so long, finally someone has entered!”

Ling Hua is surrounded in dark shadows, grabbing and twisting around him as Huan Mao’s voice surrounds him.

Ling Hua: “Demon! Were you the one that captured my Shijie?!”

Huan Mao: “Wait till you enter my stomach to find out!”

[Eaten]

[Ling Hua wakes up from nightmare]

47:10

Ling Hua: “Another nightmare! Lately I keep dreaming about that demon…always the same voice but I can never see clearly his appearance…is it a hallucination?”

[Knocking]

Bai Da Shixiong [14] knocks on his bedroom door. Speaking through it: “Ling Hua! Come out quickly! Shijie has come back!”

Ling Hua: “Ah! Shijie has returned?!”

[Rushes out]

47:38

Ling Men’s Current Sect Leader/Ling Hua’s Shifu: “Yun Er, where have you been for these 6 years? Me and your disciple brothers had searched all over for you, and thought you had long since departed from this world.”

Shijie: “That day this student was unfortunate enough to have slipped down the mountainside, getting amnesia, and was saved by a nomadic Bhikkhunī who took me to travel with her to various places in the world, only recently did I receive my memory back and so I quickly bid her goodbye to return to this sect. Implore Shifu to forgive this disciple!”

Ling Hua: “Shifu! Shijie did not intentionally go missing-in-action, these 6 years she was wandering outside and undoubtedly suffered a lot already, I beg you to not discipline her further!”

Ling Hua’s Shifu: “Mmm, what matters most is that you’re back. Yun’er, you travelled for such a long distance, I’m sure you’re tired, why don’t you retire for the night.”

Shijie: “Yes.”

[Outside, Ling Hua runs to his Shijie]

Ling Hua: “Shijie! It’s great that you’re back, I missed you so much!”

Shijie: “Sorry Ling Hua, this Shijie is tired, I’ll talk to you later.”

Bai Da Shixiong: “Shijie seems to have changed a lot since returning, she’s turned quite cold it seems.”

Ling Hua: (sighs) “She suffered much outside so naturally her temperament will have changed a bit. From, we must treat her with care and show her compassion, I’m sure after a while she’ll be back to her old warm self.”

49:24

Bai Da Shixiong to Ling Hua: “Ling Hua, tonight Shifu is in closed door cultivation, you’ll be in charge of making the rounds patrolling tonight (defensively). Make sure the disciple brothers keep a strong arm and diligent eye open (for danger).”

Ling Hua: “Yes, I understand.” (Da Shixiong leaves)

Shijie (suddenly walking up from behind Ling Hua): “Ling Hua.”

Ling Hua: “Shijie!” (runs to her) “Shijie, you called me?”

Shijie: “Oh, do you still remember that red bean pastry you had bought from the village at the base of the mountain last time? Today I’m not feeling too well, can you go down and buy it for me?”

Ling Hua: “Er…this…that red bean pastry is only available on market days. Today in the marketplace there is no gather, but also, today Shifu is in closed door cultivation, tonight I have to patrol the mountaintop.”

Shijie: “Yesterday I heard from woodsmen in the mountain that there will be a Mountain God Celebration today, the gathering should be similar to market days, can you go and see if the vendor for the red bean pastries will show up? I’ll take your place in patrolling.”

Ling Hua: “Sure! I’ll go right now. Take my place for a bit, I’ll be back quick-“

Shijie: “No! Uh…I mean, you don’t have to hurry back, after you finish purchasing the pastries, go to the Guanyin Temple and ask for a fortune on my behalf, later on you can stay overnight in the town too.”

Ling Hua: “Okay! Then I’ll go now. You be careful Shijie!”

(He leaves in the forest)

50:53

Ying San Jun (who sees him in the forest): “Ling Hua?”

Ling Hua: “Oh it’s Ying San Jun, haven’t seen you for many days now, are you doing well?”

Ying San Jun: “I just finished closed door meditation and am outside now taking a stroll and happened to come upon you. Seeing you travelling hurriedly, are you on an errand to the town?”

Ling Hua: “Today there’s a Mountain God Celebration, I want to go there and buy some pastries.”

Ying San Jun: “I just came back from there, I didn’t see any Mountain God Celebration in the streets. Have you perhaps mistaken?”

Ling Hua: “There isn’t (a festival)? But I heard it straight from Shijie. Perhaps she too had misheard…”

(Demon sounds, all beasts and monsters on the mountains are retreating away from the summit)

Ling Hua: “How come these beasts are all evacuating? What has happened?”

Ying San Jun: “Many demons migrating at once. They are undoubtedly avoiding a natural enemy. If not a god then a demon.”

Ling Hua: “A black fog has risen from the back of the mountain heading right towards my sect!” (He starts running back, Ying San Jun stops him)

Ying San Jun: “Ling Hua, where are you going?”

Ling Hua: “My sect is facing a big unforeseen development, I hurry back to assist!”

Ying San Jun: “Your steps are too slow, come grab onto the sleeve of my robe, I’ll send you there via cloud soaring.”

Ling Hua (grabs on): “Thank you!”

[They fly together]

52:16

Ying San Jun: “Not good. The demonic miasma here is too thick, I can’t get any closer.”

Ling Hua: “Just here is close enough! Go back Ying San Jun! I’ll visit and appropriately thank you another day!” [He rushes away]

Ying San Jun: “Ling Hua, be extra careful!”

[Ling Hua rushes to the Forbidden Ground cave where the miasma is coming from, he sees his disciple brethren fighting something in the shadows, a disciple is thrown out of the cave, hitting the ground by Ling Hua’s feet]

Ling Hua: “Wang Shidi! Wang Shidi! What’s happened?”

Wang Shidi (on the verge of death): “The demon sealed in the Forbidden Grounds…has been freed.” (he dies)

Ling Hua: “Wang Shidi! Wang Shidi!”

[More magic, demonic miasma uprooting trees and throwing disciples everywhere]

52:58

Huan Mao: “This Venerable One has been imprisoned in that cave by you guys for centuries, today I’m finally able to leave! Hahaha!”

Ling Hua’s Bai Da Shixiong (standing with his other disciple brothers, forming his array): “Form the array! Hold off this demon!”

Huan Mao: “A bunch of powerless individuals and still dare to make noise before me!”

Ling Hua (running up to his Bai Shixiong, the only one still alive): “Stop!”

Da Shixiong: “Ling Hua, hurry and escape.” (dies)

Ling Hua: “Shixiong!” (turns to demon) “You! Demon, I’m going to kill you!”

53:38

Huan Mao: “Hmph, so there’s still one more ant here that doesn’t care for his life.”

Ling Hua/Xuan Ling (flashback voice overlays): “Evil Disperse!”

Huan Mao (finding the array familiar): “Mm?”

Ling Hua: (chanting exorcism array)  “Ten Thousand Swords Return to Home, Wield Heaven to Eradicate Evil!”

[exploding magic]

Huan Mao: “You intend to stop me on your own?” [He attacks]

[Ling Hua falls down, Huan Mao steps to stand over him]

Ling Hua: “Since I’ve lived up till now, I naturally have the skills to stop you!”

[More electric magic sounds, he gets captured, suspended through the air by Huan Mao’s grip]

Huan Mao (finally recognizing him): “Oh? No wonder you’re so confident in your words, so it turns out to be you. Who’d have thought that after sealing this Venerable One in the cave back that your ‘lamp oil ran out’ as well. A cultivator seeking immortality ironically falling into the reincarnation cycle, hahahahaha.”

(He’s choking Ling Hua)

Ling Hua: “Wretched being!”

Huan Mao: “Even after reincarnation you still appear delectably tasty…this Venerable One is naturally a picky eater but when it comes to your raw soul…I’ve always been desiring without attaining, hahaha.”

(Choking Ling Hua, laughing, about to eat him, Shijiie runs up)

Shijie: “STOP! Huan Mao, he’s the Ling Hua Shidi I spoke about! You promised me you wouldn’t harm him! You can’t go back on your word!”

Ling Hua: “Shijie?!”

Shijie: “Hurry and let him go!”

Huan Mao: “Stupid woman, what right do you have to negotiate with this Venerable One?”

Shijie: “I…I saved your life. If I hadn’t broken the array in the Forbidden Grounds, how could you have escaped?!”

Ling Hua: “Shijie! This demon…was unleashed by you?!”

Huan Mao: “Hmph, she didn’t just let me out, she also told me that tonight would be the Ling Men sect leader’s closed door cultivation day, perfectly suitable for this Venerable One to take his revenge!”

Ling Hua: “Shijie! Why did you do such a thing?! Wang shidi and everyone was killed by this demon! How could you be so cruel!?

Shijie: “Ling Hua, forgive this shijie…”

Ling Hua: “Why did you betray us? Say something! SAY SOMETHING!”

Shijie: “I…I…deserve death.” (sobbing)

Huan Mao: “Let me tell you why. Six years ago this woman trespassed into the cave, awoke me from my sleep. I merely ‘smiled’ a bit at her and she became mesmerized [by my beauty], from that point on willingly listening to my every command and even willingly beget for me a demon child!”

Ling Hua: “WHAT?!”

56:44

Huan Mao: “No one in the Sixth Paths of Reincarnation can resist this Venerable One’s allure, forget a simple mortal [woman], even an ascended immortal will lose all logical thinking when they look upon me, that was exactly what happened in your past life!” (to Ling Hua, chokes him again)

Huan Mao: “Didn’t expect this turn of events, right? Evaded me for centuries and yet still ended up being eaten by me.”

Ling Hua: “It’s such a shame….you won’t be able to eat after all!”

[Array activates around Huan Mao’s feet]

Huan Mao: “This is…a Demon Exorcism Array?!”

Shifu (who has finally appeared out of closed door meditation after sensing something wrong): “Ling Hua duck away! Let this master use Tian Guan Array to kill this demon!”

Huan Mao: “Stinky old man! Let me kill you!”

[Shifu chanting array]

Shijie (still in love): “Shifu! Don’t!” [she runs in and is caught by the explosion, blocking a fatal part of the array]

Ling Hua: “Shijie! Stop!”

Huan Mao (physical shell has been killed, but his soul is still alive because of Shijie’s blocking, speaking through his demonic soul): “Ah, such a shame, if I had managed to eat your (Ling Hua’s) raw soul I would have been able to return to near full power…if that had happened how I could possibly get trapped by this little Demon Exorcism Array? But…this Venerable One has left behind his offspring…once I am fully reborn…I will definitely come back and find you again.” (to Ling Hua)

(His soul vanishes)

Ling Hua (turns to his Shijie who is coughing up blood, on the verge of death, he hugs her form on the ground): “Shijie! Shijie, are you okay?! Shijie?!” (turns to his master) “Shifu, Shijie is about to die, can you save her?!”

Shifu: “Ah, this stupid fool, sacrificing herself for a demon…’committing acts of doom will doom oneself.’”

Shijie: “This disciple knows…this disciple is laden with heavy sins…but I beg you to please…show mercy for Zhao-er…”

Ling Hua (thinking to himself) “Zhao-er?! Could that be…the child she had with the demon?!”

Shijie: “Shifu…shifu…”

Shifu: “If I had wanted to kill her, I would have done so already, why would I have left him for so long now? ‘The Heavens have mercy for all’, though his father is a demon, he is still just an innocent child.”

Shijie: “This disciple…th-thanks…”

Ling Hua: “Shijie, that demon was just using you! How come you’re still showing care for him?!”

Shijie: “I know…but…I have no regrets…” (dies)

Ling Hua: “Shijie…shijie?!” (sobs) “Shijie?!!!!!” (sobs)

1:01:38

[Ling Hua, now having succeeded as Da Shixiong for the sect with all his other older disciple brothers/sisters dead, leads his two other shidis in the Forbidden Grounds cave to find the child Shijie and Huan Mao left behind.]

Nameless Shidi: “Ma Shidi, this cave is so ominously scary, why would Shifu assign us to pick someone up here?”

Ma Shidi: “Not sure, but if Shifu commands it then we’ll do it. If we have any confusions we can later ask Da Shixiong (Ling Hua).”

Nameless Shidi: “The day before, with the attack, all those disciples including the former Da Shixiong were all killed in battle…only Da Shixiong (Ling Hua) was able to survive.”

Ma Shidi: “Of course, that’s why he’s now become our Da Shixiong. But you know, I think he’s changed quite a bit since before…his personality has completely gone cold…”

Nameless Shidi: “Most likely he was traumatized by that blood bath…eh, he’s walking so fast, we need to follow closer, lest we get lost! Da Shixiong! Da Shixiong! Wait for us!”

[Runs to Da Shixiong]

Nameless Shidi: “Wah! What is that? How could there be such a huge cocoon on the ground?”

1:02:46

Ma Shidi: “And translucent too! Inside…it’s a child?”

[Cocoon splits]

Namless Shidi: “The cocoon broke! That child…is it awakening?”

[Child yawns, big adorable eyes blinking cutely, tiredly.]

Ma Shidi: “That child is sure adorable…the one shifu wanted us to pick up, is it this little guy?”

[Ling Hua breathes heavily.]

Nameless Shidi: “Da Shixiong, why did you draw your sword?…Do you intend to kill that child?”

Huan Mao’s baby: “Hmm? Who are you? Why did you wake me up?”

[Ling Hua raises blade]

Shidis together: “Da Shixiong!”

Huan Mao’s baby (to Ling Hua): “Can you tell me your name?”

[Ling Hua raises sword to kill but strikes empty rocks in the end, unable to bring himself to kill the boy.]

[1] Buddha = Originally Siddhartha Gutama but attained enlightenment/Nirvana and was able to end the ‘cycle of suffering’ (reincarnation) for himself by forgoing all 7 emotions and 6 desires (which vary depending on the scholar/belief teaching it and I’m in no place to tell you which ones are correct lol), which is the central idea to Buddhism/monasticism, the foregoing of all emotions (love, hate, lust, envy etc) and became a central figure in Buddhism teaching. In mythological tales, he is portrayed as an all-powerful godlike figure that is more powerful than the Jade Emperor, as even Heavenly Immortals are not immune to emotional temptations as we will soon see….

[2] Da Ren means literally big person but is synonymous with ‘Your Grace,’ ‘Your Highness/Majesty’

[3] West in this case meaning India, where Siddhartha came from and where the monk Xuanzang sojourned for 17 years to teach/amalgamate chinese and Indian Buddhism beliefs of compassion, self-sacrifice

[11]: Tian Luo Di Wang: 天罗地网 = Literally means nets all over in both Heaven and Earth, meaning to trap someone without escape, but it’s an array in this case

[Mature] MDZS – Blindfold Kiss Scene

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GOOIBmQv86VDFz4nTT_9G-NXPBW2iAHi/view?usp=sharing

WWX (while blindfolded): “Are you here for hunting too?”

Lan Zhan: “…”

WWX: “I can assure you, you won’t be able to find anything near me.”

WWX: “Or are you interested in this tree too? Sorry, you’ll have to find another-“

(pushed against tree)

WWX: “You- what are you-” (kissed)

WWX Thoughts: Th-this person why- (continues being kissed)

WWX after briefly breaking free for a bit: “L-let go!”

(pushed back, kissed again)

WWX Thoughts: Th-this person is shaking….this girl is brave enough to take advantage of me while I’m blindfolded and yet she’s such a fearful shy person. Nervous and shaking to this extent, if I were to suddenly push her away and see her identity wouldn’t she have a breakdown? ….B-but why is this girl’s strength so strong?! (continually being kissed) Th-this girl is quite…incredible….can’t breathe… (birds) (finally pushes Lan Zhan away, who escapes unseen)

(WWX removes blindfold)

WWX: “Damn…” (looks around) “Where is the person? WWX you are so pathetic, kissed to the point where your legs are unable to stand properly. Martial arts to this extent…where could she have gone? Unless I was hallucinating? (lightly pats his own face) How come the flower I had on my chest is gone…”

On Naihe Bridge Old Friends Meet

(Naihe Bridge is bridge in Hell, where all souls have to cross in order to pass onto next life.)

奈何橋上逢故人 by 桃符(古代, 輕鬆甜文, 短篇)

(Video Starts: war sounds, fighting, stabbing, someone gets injured with arrow, finally dies)

2:35

(Hell sounds, souls in the underworld passing through to get judged, lots of spirits with unfulfilled wishes)

3:05

Resentful Spirit 1: “Ying-er, where areeee youuu?”

Resentful Spirit 2: “I studied diligently and arduously for 13 years to take the Imperial Exams so that I could take care of my parents [as a magistrate], who would have thought…”

(Ambiguous Hell sounds/dialogue of restless spirits)

[First meeting on the bridge.]

3:42

“Waiting for someone?”

“Mm.”

“Who knows whoever started this trend. Humans have their entire lifespan, what matter cannot be settled while they’re alive? Yet, even as ghosts they still have issues that need to be settled, what an extremely ludicrous practice!”

“True.”

4:20

Ghost Worker: “Reincarnation has risks! After rebirth take care! Being a ghostly usher isn’t a bad job!”

“Eh, eh, come, brother, please move aside, let this bro of yours squeeze onto this tight [bridge] space, there’s too many people passing to and fro.”

Ghost Worker: “Eh this fellow, in such a rush! Be wary you don’t accidentally get reborn as a pig!”

“I’m being squeezed uncomfortably.”

Fellow ghost on Naihe Bridge: “What are you squeezing for?! Even if you make it to the front don’t you still have to wait to be reincarnated!”

4:49

“Come, take my hand.”

“Ah! Thank you! Thank you!”

“No worries.”

“Who are you waiting for?”

“……that…”

“Hey, it’s no problem if you don’t say. I just want to find someone to talk to for a bit. I too am looking for someone. On the topic of myself, I have a very mournful story. I have an older brother. As good to me as if he and I were the same person. Ah. We both became soldiers. And in a war there will naturally be casualties. Life and death brethren we were. He risked his life to save mine in his grace. But why did he have to continue professing his love for me. And even insisted for me to wait for him on this Naihe Bridge, that if he didn’t see me he would never leave. I used everything in my being to save his life but as soon as I turned my head I got killed. Ah, it was such a frightful experience. It made my legs and feet numb. Hence why I’m here squatting now.”

“………”

“Eh, why are you looking at me this way? I don’t return his feelings in that way! I did it because he is still my brother, I can’t let him wait here stupidly. After he arrives, I’ll let him know to go our separate ways.”

“I…”

“Ah! I can see him now. I’ll leave now!”

“Mmm. Okay.”

(MC leaves.)

“Stupid.”

6:35

[The second time: Light Car, Familiar Road*]

Nameless Female Ghost: “It clearly wasn’t me who killed….wasn’t me who killed….why was it me?! WHY WAS IT ME?! Die with me! ALL OF YOU DIE WITH ME!”

Nameless Male Ghost: “Mother I’ve come to find you! Mother, where are you?”

(Whip sounds)

Female Ghost Worker: “Keep walking! What are you looking at?! If you delay our schedule, the magistrate will send all of you to the animal reincarnation path!”

Meng Pao*****: “Drink all of this Meng Pao Soup, drinking all of this old lady’s soup will melt away (make you forget) all of your past life’s romantic and vengeful thoughts!”

(Bell sounds, ambiguous Hell sounds)

8:41

“Don’t push! Don’t push!”

“Over here. There’s a spot for you here.”

“Eh? Brother, how come you are still here?”

“Long time no see.”

“Aiyo. Who exactly are you waiting for? Even a tortoise** should have reached the end of his life by now!”

“…..”

“Oh sorry, sorry! My mouth was thoughtless, something that I’ve grown used to this past life. Come, you’ll have to once again lend me some space to stand.”

“Mmmh.”

“Ugh. There sure are a lot of ghosts here, thankfully I made it on time! Any less luck and I’d have to wait for the next round (of reincarnation). Since we have nothing else to do, how about we chat once again?”

“Please speak freely.”

“Last time I spoke about a brotherly issue, didn’t I? This most recent life I must have subconsciously remembered that dilemma and so I didn’t dare have any close brotherly relationship this time with anyone. Originally, I thought I could be leader to a group of thieves and just plainly live my life to the end. Who’d have thought I’d provoke a rival leader. Spending everyday trying to vie for my turf. In this world of 9 states and 4 seas, it’s not like there’s no other space for him? But he knew that in my nest of thieves, I had the young and old to care for, and could any of them really suffer such constant attacks?”

9:52

“Brother…since you had a wife and children, you should not have engaged in fights with another.”

“Hmph, you think I wanted to fight with him? And besides, the family wasn’t mine. By ‘the young’ I meant my subordinates! On this topic, I’m actually quite pissed. Last lifetime, I died young but this lifetime I lived up to nearly 30 and never even married a wife! I blame that ancestor (that rival)!”

“…….”

“Hey. Even now I have to wait for this guy to return to the karmic cycle. During my first 7 days after death, I felt worried and went back to my home to get a peek at them. I found this guy squatting in front of my grave, drinking, saying that if I don’t wait for him on the Naihe Bridge, then he’d go demolish my parent’s house and upturn my ancestor’s graves. I say, anyone that makes it to the Naihe Bridge is naturally a dead person. How could he demolish or upturn anything? Originally I intended to just ignore him but then that jerk actually started outright crying. The fuck. As a man, how could he just outright start to cry? Watching him gave me the heebie jeebies. My heart couldn’t help softening at the sight. What are you looking at me like that for? I’m really not that sentimental of a person, what matters of love and relationships and friendship, too clichéd and boring! When he comes, I’ll have a good fight with him and then we’ll part ways. In any case, I won’t let him carry any regrets into the next life. How absolutely irritating!”

“……mmmh.”

11:23

“Speaking of this, i’s weird because no matter what, I just can’t stand the prospect of owing a debt to anyone. Just at the thought of ignoring him –if he, just speaking on the possibility, that he turns into your case, and just waits here foolishly continuously without stop, that’s not something any person should do. No matter good or bad, people should straightforwardly confront each other right?”

“That is logical.”

“Ah! I’m not insulting the person you’re waiting for- but that person really is inconsiderate! Ugh! So aggravating even to me!”

“No worries.”

“Haha, you actually know how to smile, you look much better this way. Ah. You’ve turned expressionless again.”

12:13

“I’m guessing the wait this time is going to be for a while, but luckily you can keep good company for me. I hope you don’t find me too talkative? Me squatting here, doesn’t interfere with anything right?”

 “Please go ahead.”

[They pass time together on Naihe Bridge.]

“Ah, finally after waiting for these three years he’s shown up! Brother I’m going now!”

“Please go well my brother.”

“Eh, how about you stop waiting too, why don’t we go and reincarnate together into the same family? That way we can look out for each other? How long have you been waiting in total now? If that bastard was going to show up he’d have long since shown up by now. Maybe he cultivated into something spiritual or immortal. You should stop waiting!”

13:03

“Please save some kindness in your speech. I can still wait for him one more life time for him one more lifetime without complaints.”

“You….fine, I can’t control you! I’m going now!”

“…stupid.”

Hell’s Magistrate’s Grandson: “Hey grandpa look, in the Book of Life and Death, these two people’s life and death dates…” *points to oddity in dates*

Hell’s Magistrate: “If one person passes three lifetimes ending all mortal entanglements then they will be clear of all mortal debt.”

Hell’s Magistrate’s Grandson: “Grandpa you know these two personally?”

Magistrate: “Look, isn’t one of them standing right there on the Naihe Bridge?”

Grandson: “Hey, grandpa, tell me their story.”

Magistrate: “You little rascal, come here.” (Hugs him)

Grandson: “Mmm.”

Magistrate: “It’s said 300 years ago there was a famous cultivating war general with his most trusted confidante best friend…”

[Third Encounter: The Old Horse Knows The Way]

“Hey! Move aside move aside move aside!”

“Long time no see.”

“You’re not going to ask me what I’m doing here?”

“Once more waiting for someone?”

“Waiting for no one, finally no attachments!”

“Then why-”

“I say, how much longer do you intend to wait here for that person?”

“……..”

“To be frank, just seeing you standing here is quite an eyesore! Originally, I decided to just go around you but just thinking that you’re fixed here like some pole in the ground is quite aggravating. Let me tell you, today you can either decide to follow me or, if you refuse, I will forcibly carry you to reincarnation. You cannot wait here any longer!”

“Let go.”

“No! Because I ended subconsciously thinking about how you are still foolishly waiting here, I never spent any good times during this most recent life. What good is that person you’re waiting for? What about him can you not forget? What about these love entanglements can you not forget? Didn’t he end up abandoning you in the end! Come with me, I will take you to drink fine wine and eat good meat!”

“I can’t let him go!”

“You…I really will carry you!”

“Do you want to know the story behind my wait here?”

“Speak! I’d like to know just exactly what kind of stuff that guy is made of!”

[On Naihe Bridge, Speaking of the past]

“When I first met him, I was no longer a young lad. Unlike me, who was completely alone, he had a family of brothers and friends he had to commit to. Though our feelings were reciprocal, his loyalties to others separated us and eventually we died separately. He told me to wait for him to finish and sever his familial worldly debts, and then he’d go with me to spend every lifetime together. I agreed. Waiting for him to finish his grievances and debts, while I stayed here with my love for him.”

“Then did he show up? Did he? Hasn’t it just been you alone waiting here like an idiot!”

“He showed up.”

“Ah?”

“Every time he reincarnated he would show up to meet me, and so in that way I was never lonely.”

“How come you never spoke of this?”

17:12

“In his first life, he resolved his family-brotherly ties. In his second life, he resolved his grievances with non-family. In his third life, he made a wish for the next life and now all of his merits have been fulfilled.”

“….how come I feel this story sounds so familiar?…..*dense thinking* No matter! In any case, today you are coming with me!”

“How did I not notice before that you were this stupid?”

“What…huh…what did you say?”

“You really just want to drink wine and eat good meat with me?”

“I, I- I….” *nervous shy laugh*

“If that’s the case, then so be it! Since you say love is not worth anything. Let’s go.”

“Hey! Hey hey! Don’t be in such a rush to reincarnate! I only said that because I thought you were pining about someone else? Wait for me!!!!”
